I was at a buddys shop and a car got fired and let idle for a while....but the auto trans was in Park....it idled for about 5 or 10 minutes and then it was put on Neutral to check oil level on the trans and it was almost dry. Question is....will an automatic transmission het damaged that way or it wont harm a thing unless its put into gear and driven while low on oil ?

CMcAllister Mr. Helpful C Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 11,542 Fulton County, PA	Years ago when I was in dealerships, I heard stories of Torqueflites in cop cars being burnt up by sitting for long periods on hot days, idling in park while watching traffic or taking a nap If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

sc4400 mopar S Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 447 lake charles, la	TRANSGO shift kit addresses this issue. It will give full time oiling, filling convertor faster too. You will notice the diffeence if you leave your ride parked for long periods. Worth the 60-70$$ RIP

I'd chance it.. fill it up and see what ya got... as said.. the cop cars did/do have issues sitting for long periods in park... the cop cars also have a lock out so they cant be pulled down into low/1st gear.. the cops had issues of FORGETTING to shift out of low

It could still be low on the dipstick and get enough lubrication to not cause damage. NEVER run an engine with a DRY torqueflite behind it! ...even in Park.
