This is the second time I have lost the mounting screw that mounts the Hurst Shifter Mounting Plate to the trans (three used).

This is the bottom most screw. This screw is exposed. The other two screws are under the shifter mechanism.

I tried lock-tight but the screw still backed out over the course of about a year.

The only thing I can think of is that the lock-Tight (red) does not work with steel threads into aluminum threads.

Anyone know if that's the case or do you have any suggestions?

Thanks
Frank

are you sure bolt does not bottom out in the hole?

brake clean and try the lock-tight gel stick in high strength.

might chase threds with a bottom tap checking to see if hole is enlarged from wear.

Hey Scratch,

Good point. As I was looking for the screws on Brewers sight he has 2 different lengths. I have a '68 runner so I went with the longer as recommended on his site. Now that you mentioned it I have an "A" body OD trans in the car now. Do you know what the difference in length is? When I installed it, it seemed that the screw seated. I'll go out tomorrow and measure the depth of the hole.
Good catch (maybe) I'll also look up the gel-stick I never knew existed.

When your old they keep flooding the market with new stuff.

Guess I'll get rid of my Mimi-o-graph paper LOL

How many of these young guys will even know what that is !!!!!

Thanks again
Frank

LOL! lock-tight has a bunch of different gel sticks for all sorts of stuff.

I like the purple gasket dressing to reuse some gaskets. makes them seal and non stick.

used the quik-metal on a couple grooved up cups from bearing race spinning in worn hubs.

shoot me your addy I will send a stick of high strength for you to test.

Scratch,

Thanks. I've been trying to send you a PM but this new format is giving me grief.

Could you PM me and I could then respond.

Thanks again,
Frank

It keeps telling me "all required fields not filled in"

WHAT FIELDS"
ugh.

Locktite red could be next to impossible to remove. Make sure it's not bottoming, and make sure if you have any driveline vibes you get them figured out. Harmonics can loosen a lot of things that normally wouldn't come loose.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
