So I noticed a nail in my front passenger tire of my Challenger and was going to just pop it off for a free fix at Discount Tire, but noticed the uneven wear was pretty bad once I had the tire off. The outside is like almost new and the inside has a bit of cord showing like the whole tire wore on an angle. Seeing this I realized it's time for new tires, but figure I should get an alignment before this happens to my new tires as well. The tires in question are about 13 year old 225/60/15 comp t/a zr's. I would probably replace with similar size tire.
My question is what needs to get adjusted? Both front tires have similar patterns, so I don't think it's due to a worn out anything and pulling/pushing on the wheel seems nice and tight.
My next question is can anyone recommend an alignment shop in the Chicago area (Near western 'burbs preferred) that knows what they are doing with old Mopars?

Way to much Camber or Toe Out could cause that
But with 13 year old tires it is time just because of the age.

I agree to check all front end parts first and make sure all is good. With both front tires wearing the same it sounds like the toe is off but when you get an alignment they will check all the front end specs and set any right that are out. Camber can also wear tires but with the front tires worn the same your toe sounds to be off but definetly make sure all the front end parts are good first. Ron

Any worn parts in the front end will wear the inside off the tires on old Mopars. Start checking the lower ball joints first. Put a jack under the lower control arm, near the tire, and lift the tire off the ground a couple inches. With a pry bar under the tire, lift up and drop down the tire. Any sloppy movement means worn lower ball joints, you can watch them separate! Then hold up on the pry bar that is under the tire, and pull and push the top of the tire. Inward or outward movement means worn upper ball joints, you should be able to see if it moves. With the tire off the ground, grab the front edge and the rear edge, and try to move the tire side to side. Loose movement means worn tie rods, again, you should be able to see the movement. Check each side the same way.
I'm betting you have at least worn lower ball joints, and maybe a lot more worn parts. Tires like new on the outside edge and cords showing on the inside is substantial wear, or very badly shifted belts in the tires. Its probably a good thing you picked up a nail. Gene

Thanks for the replies, Yeah I knew it was time for new tires, either way. There is no play when I push/pull on the wheel and both fronts are worn the same, so I don't think anything is wore out, but I will try the tests recomended above first. I did a complete suspension rebuild before the alignment 13 years and 10k miles ago. I did have the alignment done on old tires before I got new (now 13 year old) ones, do tires make a difference in the alignment? Maybe that was the problem...
