Mechanic is replacing the Oil Pan Gasket (under warranty) on my '80 Aspen A38/E58. I have a Milodon one piece o/p gasket to give him. I also will need a rear main seal, right? Excuse my ignorance on the subject. If I do, please direct me to the best type/brand so I won't be going thru this again. He is doing all labor under warranty because it's leaked since he replaced it before.

Thanks.

It will probably continue to leak the rear main on small block are pain to keep from leaking Use good silicone sealer on cap and do not apply in cold or damp conditions. Use grease on seal itself I prefer to use Mopar gasket in a can for the pan gasket. Assemble and do not run for several hours this lets silicone set up . By the synthetic oil seems to love to leak on the 360s seeps right past gaskets if this is the problem use high mileage oil it really does help reduce leaks

Hi Larry

look at the new oil seal from superformance

get them at Hughes or other moparts sponsers.

I just tried a few of the gaskets out and really like them so far.

If the Milodon 1pc gasket has the (2) side flat gaskets and (2) end black neoprene seals that fit into the oil pan half moon cutouts all connected & I am assuming that is what it is then that is it for an oil pan gasket (+ cement). If he was to replace the black neoprene rear main seals (2 halves) he'd pull the #5 main cap & one half goes in it then drop the crank a hair to R&R the other half that is up in the block groove.

That is the o/p gasket I got. I figured the rear main seal should be replaced anytime the pan is pulled? Thanks.

If the rear main is NOT leaking leave it be and just replace the pan gasket. Make sure you get the correct gasket. The one piece gaskets for a magnum don't work on a LA 360 unless you use a lot of silicon to fill in the gap.

I decided to have new oil pan on hand since not too expensive. Looking at this Jegs one, and it states 5 qts. plus filter. I thought stock would be 4 qts. plus filter. I see the 318 one shows 4 qts. plus filter??? Also, any experience with Jegs oil pans. I already tried to find a NOS one. Thank you.

Well this is quite an old thread, but I've just gotten busy and had to put the old Mopes on hold, which I hate. But just wanted to upadate that I just ordered the Superformance gasket set as recommended. Hopefully the end of next week I can install the pan and have the old girl back on the road! Thanks.
