have a 727 diesel- short shaft/ fixed yoke.

727 gas- long shaft, slip yoke

Want to make the diesel- long shaft /slip yoke

Can I swap the shaft and tail housing out of the gas , into the diesel

Depends on the year; if both the gas and the diesel are '93 or earlier or both are '94 it's a straight-across swap but if one is '94 and the other is '93-earlier you'll have to swap the front planetary also.

Also, but be aware that the gas and the diesel use different governors so, when swapping output shafts, swap the diesel governor assembly onto the gas output shaft.
