Yep, still winter but getting closer to spring We are bringing this Dart back to life. bought it 2 years ago Won't be factory when finished, but wonder what was when new. V21 V8X Y05 END M21 M43 N41 M42 N85 R11 VX1 C16 C55 G31 J45 FYI H6X9 TX9 107 143050 E55 D32 LM29 HOR 196081 someone put a 2 barrel on the 340 (non Number eng) added a 4 speed bench seat since it needs quarters and trunk, we are going to tub it for 10" x 15" rallye wheels narrowed rear and move the springs in. Have the fresh built 340 and 4 speed ready to go A new pistol grip and hurst shifter the front rotors will be changed to BBP

Too bad you are going to cut it up, not many left and good color/options. I got 29x10.5x15 slicks in my Dart without tubbing, just moving the springs inboard and custom offset wheels. Only had to use the hammer in a couple spots on the inner wheelhouses after a few passes to see where the rubber was...
Gonna make it a clean cut 3 1/2" strip to widen the tub, all welds on the inside of the tub. like we did on the 71
If I had the original Eng, Trans, console, bucket seats. I would keep it Factory
also it needs both front floor pans, spare tire well, both trunk extensions and quarters, rear valance.
plus, we have a narrowed Rear and 10" x 15" rally wheels just laying here
When we went to look at a green 70 Dart We went there to buy the roof for the 72 Dart, but had to buy the yellow one in order to get the green 70 parts car.
When I saw the yellow one, i saw

not directed at anyone Just asking since alot of other sheet metal is getting replaced Is tubbing it that bad?? The next owner, could always put the stock rear under it with 14" rallys and most people wouldn't notice the tubs like I said, so much original is missing> eng/ trans The green 70 Dart I could get the trans and linkage out of to put it back automatic Maybe watch for some seats and console. The 340 we built will still be wrong due to casting date

Some folks are purists, and prefer that every old Mopar stays original (no disrespect intended). I tend to think like you; with the drive train and important pieces of the interior missing, it's going to cost much more to make it APPEAR original than it would to make it the way YOU want it...and you'll never get that money back out of it. Press on...

50% of the "numbers matching" cars aren't! It's a hobby & a loosing proposition either way. you can spend time & money making it appear as a factory correct musclecar, & get a ~50% ROI you can spend time & money making it appear as a custom "hot rod", & get a ~25% ROI It's your money that you can spend/invest/dispose of as you desire ..... but there is value in the "original bones" of a 340 Swinger, that value is lost once it becomes a "custom". Quality body, paint, parts all cost time & money: STOCK or CUSTOM

I agree with Dan, there are fewer truly numbers matching 340 cars out there than most realize. While lacking the numbers drive train does decrease the value a bit, it doesn't automatically degrade it to race car status in terms of value or collectability. Also, if you want to make it faster than stock you can accomplish that just fine with stock wheel wells, no need to hack on the car.
Just one more opinion, but if that car were mine I'd buy and replace stock replacement parts that it's missing (seats, uncut rear end, etc.) and build either s stock replacement 340 drive train for it, or a little stroker version if you want some more go.
*BTW, my 71 340 Duster also lacks it's original engine and trans, I'm heading my own advice on my own car.
