Looking for some input. Need a decent pan for my 400. The engine has a 4.25 stroke crank. Wont run faster than 11.0-11.50. Its going in a 67 Belvedere II. I do want a pan w/dipstick provisions and an internal pick up. I have narrowed it down to a Canton Racing pan part #15-950 or Milodon #30930. Just cant find any info whether the Canton pan will have an issue w/the stroke length(Summits site says stock stroke) and for the Milodon (Summit shows it has no dipstick provision). Which after looking at images appears incorrect. Which pans have you guys had good luck in a 66/67 B-body. As I have said not locked into any one pan yet. Just want one that wont leak and will work with my set up.
Thanks
Ok

Ron, your car is beautiful and you are careful with it. The way I drive mine, sometimes spirited on real mid west roads, I would have been through several pans and maybe engines by now.
I run the 6 quart "hemi" pan with a skid plate on the K frame. Is a low deck with 4.15 stroke and windage tray. The stock dipstick (mounted in the block, not pan) works fine. The Hemi pan is about 1" deeper than stock and hangs a little below the K. The skid plate has saved it more than once. I think it would be a good choice for the OP or the road race pan which is more spendy.
Anything deeper than the OE 4 quart is best used with a matched skid plate IMO.
PS. My skid plate really earned its keep last fall. Driving to a track day at around 5:30 AM on a cold rainy sleety morning I "ate" a full tread of a super single truck tire. Standing tall like a big doughnut. Front valence, lower rad support, radiator, fan/clutch all toast. The skid plate pushed the tire under the pan and it was fine save for some rubber stains.

I run a 440-source pan. It hangs low, but its never been an issue because I usually watch where I'm going and I'm fairly careful with my car. It's got a couple of dings here & there, I have assumed from rocks bouncing along the roadway, but never have I had an issue with destroying it. If you drive it like you stole it, you may want to go to a road-race style pan.

me too, I have considered going to the six quart but not sure I feel like changing a pan in the car.

I like the fact that I can load 7 quarts plus an additive, and the dipstick reads right at the bottom "add" mark. Lots of oil, and away from the tray.

Thanks for the info Cab. I saw that pan. Just wasn't sure how it would fit on a 67. Mancini had a hemi pan for the earlier body styles but it was similarly priced to the 2 pans I mentioned. I do like keeping things simple. Now that I know someone that has 1st hand knowledge of fitment I may go that direction. Pan and pick up is $169 so that would free up money for other small parts that always creep up on us. This is the car. If I can dig my trailer out of the snow I can pick it up from the body shop Saturday. [image]http:// [/image] [image]http:// [/image]

I have the 30930 in my '67. Its a nice pan and fits well. I actually got it in the car with the scatter shield on the back of the engine, that made it a pain the in the you know what though.
It is not that low profile though, sticks down almost as much as some of the cheap deep sump big pans. Although every bit counts. I'd say it hangs around 2 inches below the K frame.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

the problem of having to treat the oil pan as a consumable that the deep pans had.
Every time I get under my car...the pan has a new dent in it. Ive dented 3 pans so far. One of them starting leaking at a spot weld after I hit something. My dented pans have nothing to do with driving style....
My car sits lower in the front that most on here, to get as much travel as possible..and my torsion bars wont hold the fat thing up any higher...
The road race pan looks pimp. 2 more inches of ground clearance is a must for me...

Yeah the road race pan is nice. Unfortunately it is way out of my budget. Too many little items needed to finish the car. With the curbs and roads around here if the other pans I listed sit 2" below the k frame I'll need to keep several on hand. After talking w/Cab I will probably buy the Summit Racing version of the 70-71 hemi pan. Dennis this is the scoop that is going on the car. [image]http:// [/image]
