ANYTHING abrasive (including ANY polish or 0000 steel wool) should be an absolute LAST resort on a good chrome finish. If you have true show quality chrome it WILL leave minute scratches in the right light. DAMHIK. I would use chemicals first. Now if the chrome isn't perfect to begin with then polish away!

If you're working around the new paint, a little bit on a rag wrapped around a finger of a gloved hand will give the best chance of avoiding hurting the new finish. The same caution applies to lacquer thinner around new paint also.

In such cases where I have overspray or yellow rust, instead of steel wool, get a piece of aluminum foil from the kitchen and fold it into a small square. Apply lacquer thinner or chrome polish to the square and scrub your chrome with it. The aluminum foil is stiffer than a rag, but softer than steel so it won't scratch.
