I have a little overspray on my chrome exhaust tips- What have you used to remove the overspray without damaging your chrome finish ? I appreciate any responses, Thanks-Ron

Turtle wax chrome polish and a little elbow grease has always worked for me.

Brake clean. Spray it on and wipe it off.

ANYTHING abrasive (including ANY polish or 0000 steel wool) should be an absolute LAST resort on a good chrome finish.

If you have true show quality chrome it WILL leave minute scratches in the right light. DAMHIK.

I would use chemicals first.

Now if the chrome isn't perfect to begin with then polish away!

If lacquer thinner won't do it, paint remover will. It won't hurt the crome. If you're working around the new paint, a little bit on a rag wrapped around a finger of a gloved hand will give the best chance of avoiding hurting the new finish. The same caution applies to lacquer thinner around new paint also.

You never use steel wool on chrome!!! In such cases where I have overspray or yellow rust, instead of steel wool, get a piece of aluminum foil from the kitchen and fold it into a small square. Apply lacquer thinner or chrome polish to the square and scrub your chrome with it. The aluminum foil is stiffer than a rag, but softer than steel so it won't scratch. I've made some really ragged out chrome look good again with that trick..

Acetone or if it's just a small spot and only need a little, wifey's nail polish remover(most are acetone based)

How about a clay bar? Works great on painted surfaces.

I have heard about Coca Cola and a ball of aluminum foil....whether that holds water or not is completely up to you to find out....

I usually just use the thinner of the paint chemicals you used.....like if it was PPG I'd Use DT870 to clean up...

I'd be leery about using oven cleaner. I tried using it to get paint off my brake lines, and ended up removing the plating.
