Anyone on here use an air/hydraulic long ram jack for their engine hoist or anything like that? What I need to know id how the jack is lowered. Do you lower it like any other jack - by turning the bleeder valve, or does it lower by bleeding the air?

Thanks,

All the ones I've used have been single acting. You turn the knob to lower the load.

It lowers by bleeding hydraulic fluid.
Yea I have done it many years ago, when that cylinder wore out I replaced with a regular hand pump cylinder.

My pro jacks operate the same way also.

Well that sucks. I was planning to build a two-post hoist using one in each post. Raising them simultaneously would be fine but lowering them would be an issue !!

My pro jacks have one valve that lowers both at the same time. Later when I go down to my race shop I can snap a picture of the valve.

I'd appreciate that.

Here's my air over hydraulic pump with a flow control knob. It can block the pressure altogether to hydraulically hold the rams up and then turned counter clock wise to bleed off the pressure to let the rams down in a controlled manner. Sorry for the messy floor, it's going to get cleaned here real soon.
