I am curious if anyone can help me with info on the M/T drag radial tires that are P295/65R-15. They list it as 30 x 12.5 but it says it has a section width of 11.9 and a tread of 10.9. I am wondering if they will fit my 63's stock wheelwell. Now I run the Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slick which has a tread of 9" and section width of 11.3. Both are listed as 30" tall with a roll circle of 94. So I am wondering is the section width the widest part of the tire ?? And if so then its only .6 or just over a 1/2" wider at the widest point then the 30 x 9's I run now ? Which is barely a 1/4" more per side ? I am considering these tires since they are a dot tire and the ones I run now are not. I can fit a tire up to a good 1/2" wider at the buldge (section width ?) per side under my car so I am thinking these may fit. By why do they say they are 30 x 12.5 as they are listed as a P295/65R-15 tire ? I know the Hoosier QTP tires I ran some years ago were listed as 29.5 x 11.5 but the 11.5 was the section width as the tread was 10". So I am wondering if anyone else has an opinion on these tires and if they think they will fit under my 63 in the stock wheelwell ? Thanks , Ron

Ron - When I had a set of the 295/65R15s mounted on 8" rims, the section width (sidewall width) was right @ 12", along w/ the 10" tread width.

I also use to run the Hoosier 91" circ 29" x 9" drag radials on the same wheel size and their sidewall was about 1" narrower, as I recall. If you have MORE than 1/2" clearance inboard & outboard of your Hoosiers now, then the M/Ts should fit.

EDIT: One last comment - the narrowest rim size I'd run either of those particular tires on would be 8"; maybe you can get away squeezing the 9" slick on a 7" rim (and that's not recommended), but the 295/65 needs at least an 8" rim.

The sizing relationship between the MT DOT and non-DOT, and the Hoosier DOT and non-DOT is similar.

i.e. a 26 x 8.5 ET drag is roughly the same at a 26 x 10 ET Street

Is the section of your current tires measured, or what Hoosier lists? Section will vary depending on the rim width it was measured on. MT lists the section of that tire based on a 8.5" rim. How wide are your rims? There were some guidelines on rim width change to section width change, but I do not recall exactly what they were...

Ron the section width is the widest (sidewall bulge) part of the tire. As mentioned the same tire will have a different section width on different width wheels. Is the width listed by M/T on the same width wheel that you run?

They compare the 295-65 to the 30x12.5 ET Street bias tire, but the bias ET Streets are listed by the section width, not tread width.
A 28x12.5 ET Street is the same size as a 28x10.5 ET Drag. The 30x12.5 ET Street is basically the same size as a 29.5x10.5 ET Drag...fit the same on my car.

If you can fit the 30x9 slick on there now, I'm almost positive the 295-65 radial will fit w/ no problems.
I ran that tire for a long time on my cuda.

Ron you should measure your current tires section width at race psi so you know what you have.

Thanks for the replies guys. I looked again at my car tonight as I have about a good 1/2" on the inside and outside right now with the 30 x 9's but they are on a 7" rim as my 8" wheel has to much offset to the outside. The 30 x 9's fit under the car on the 8" wheels but on bumps the tire rubs up inside the 1/4 panel so I cant use them on the street. If it was race only I could get away with it so I need to get a different wheel to run the M/T drag radials. I plan to look into the wheels later and then maybe try the M/T drag radials. Thanks again , Ron

I know on the 68-70 B-body's that tire will fit in the stock tubs but only on an 8 in. rim with 4 1/2 in. backspace. I'm not sure how different your 63's tubs and 1/4 lips are form the later ones though. Hope that helps.
