PN will depend on ride height, and full droop. Take some measurements and flip through the catalog. I sent my measurements to Calvert, and they got me the correct shock.

Next season, I may experiment with a few different shocks but would rather start with a shock that has a good rep both on the street and the strip. B-body, 10 inch tire, Super Stock springs with aluminum front eye bushings and Calvert 90/10's at the nose here. Part numbers?
I would opt for a "better" shock if funds allowed.

I apologize in advance for possibly hijacking this thread, but...
For a CalTrac-equipped car that's been using the original 5-way Ranchos, what would be viable (and affordable) options to upgrade to DA rear shocks? It's a street/strip E-body that's gone 1.45-1.46 60-fts. on 275R15 ET Street Radials.
I'm seeing references to Vi-King, Strange, Afco (and?) above, so I'm "all ears" not having used any of them. I do currently have QA-1 "R" series on the front, though. Thanks. - Brad
The Vi-kings are the most affordable. I've been doing a lot of research on them lately b/c I need to upgrade to D/A shocks from my Rancho 9000s. The Ranchos have worked good on my car running mid 9s N/A, but I think they just aren't up to the task of handling my car on nitrous.

Here is the deal on shocks...........ANY shock will work, just boils down to how WELL you want it to work. A cheap shock is a cheap shock and as such, its ability to control the housing or the front end will be limited. Countless people come on here and say they have so and so 90/10s and so and so 50/50s and their car works fine. Well it probably does, but the question is could it work BETTER with better shocks and the answer is likely yes. All boils down to how serious you are about maximizing your combo.
The OP poster has gone to, in some eyes, a ridiculous amount of time and expense to make the car as light as it can be. So to follow that up with just an "ok" shock just doesn't seem to make much sense in the grand scheme. I realize the weight loss deal has probably evolved into a challenge just to see how light it CAN be and that's great, but why not now try and see how good you can make it work. Those are my thoughts.
As I always say, buy the BEST shock you can afford, or are willing to pay for. Now one thing I will say, is that you WON'T get 1k shock performance from a set of $300 shocks, I don't care what these companies claim. You get what you pay for with shocks. Me personally, I would put DA shocks on both sides and probably the "least good" shock I would put on it would be an Afco.
I have seen a lot of talk about the Viking shocks, but I have no experience with them at all. Never seen one. I know their website says their staff is NOT new to shocks and has over 50 years experience, but they don't say who those people are, or where they came from. They do look somewhat similar, at least some of the bodies do, to a Hal or a QA-1 and then others look like Vari-Shocks..........so what does that mean?......probably nothing.

I had rancho 9 ways on mine, best 60ft was 1.43 reasonable for the car. Anyway, I made up my mind to try the Afco DA's with a goal of at least 1.40 ideally 1.39, bear in mind i do the car on a budget and for me to spend what i think is a lot of money i want to see results on what i consider a fairly mild set up. The car has ran a 1.36 now, so in my mind that more than justifies the costs. Mick
