Hello Guys,
I have a stock 67 GTX that I want to run in the 1/4 mile at the local strip. Currently the car has 14" wheels and the rear wheel wells sit about 2" higher than stock. What is the the biggest racing radial or cheater slick that I can use and still have clearance in the wheel wells ? I'd like to stay with the 14" wheel if possible but will go to a 15" wheel is I have to.
Thanks................

Measure from the tires you have to the inside and outside of the wheel tubs, inner wheel wells, or the smallest thing in diameter as well as forward and backwards limiting your tires in that car and go from there Measure three times, buy tires once I have two 1966-67 B bodys, they don't take a very big tire stock I moved the springs into the sub frames on my 1966 Dodge Coronet deluxe,I also added the Mopar SS springs. I had the front of the stock wheel wells and fenders lengthen 3 inches forward so I can run some decent size tires on that car Let us know what you decide and do BTW, take it from a old drag racers, buy a set of bias ply slicks, if you can find them in 14 inch or 15 inch and mount them on a spare set of wheels and use them at the race track only, do NOT buy Radials drag slicks Radial drag slicks work great on a good track, not so on most non prep drag strips The bias plys slicks will work better at most regular drag strips

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

They dont have a huge wheelwell. You might just try to get something like a 28 x 9 size on an 8" rim as that should fit with the right offset. I dont hink you can fit much bigger and a 9" slick or drag radial will hook enough to run in the 9's with good suspension. Good luck , Ron

I'm sitting right where you're trying to get, and can tell you that the best setup for a 67 street / strip car is a set of 15x7's with 4-1/4" bs (stock 15x7 steel wheels) with a set of M/T ET Street Radial 255/60-15's. They'll fit with just enough room to get them in & out of there. If you run bias ply's up front, then you'll want to do that out back as well. In this case, opt for the M/T ET Street 27x10.5's, as they're roughly the same size in a bias ply.

as an aside - not to hijack .
It appears there is less room for tire in the 66/67 models than the 64/65 models . Is this correct ?
thanks,

Tex

Thanks for the input guys,
I will measure the clearances that I have now.
You guys are right, the 66-67 b-bodies do not have the room in the rear that the other years have. I currently have Coker redline radials mounted on 14" factory magnum 500 wheels. They don't bite good at all. I'll start looking for a set of 14" or 15" steel wheels. I believe the 15" are more common.
