I am trying to sell one. Built by pro trans, race prepped case, J&W sb bell, stroud trans blanket, A&A aluminum drums, fully rollerized, trans brake just updated with oring seals, bolt in sprag, moroso aluminum pan lokar locking dip stick. Trans was over 4000.00 from pro trans, just apart ready to go $1750.00. Just went 162mph in my 3200 lb car.

I would build it right into a turbo 400 so i could use a real converter.

Was pricing some parts from A&A the other day...They offer some serious upgrades for the 727, although not cheap, but neither is a 1200hp Mopar engine. I would price that and the T400 and see... And if your putting the T400 in it, you could also put in a LS engine in it too....

Several have been fast with 727. As Bob mentions, the stock bell does not provide room for a real converter. This requires a 1/2" thick miplate and a GM converter shell. There are parts to do this. If you buy a trans to do this figure $7,000. If you are able it can be a lot cheaper.
If you want all Mopar and have the money it can be done.
Or make a call and in a few days install a turbo 400 with Mopar bell.

I was doing my own trans up to the point when I started twisting/breaking input/ output shafts. I called A&A, priced all the parts that I needed, and at that point... It was only about a $200 difference to have Rick do the trans for me. I had that trans in the car for 6 years with one failure. I twisted the pinion gear off of the rear end, and the shock load broke the output shaft bearing, snap ring and squashed the input/ output washer. Not the trans' fault. I ran a spragless converter, A&A brake. The car was 3700 lbs, 3.50 rear gear, 31"W" tires. It 60ft in the mid 1.20s. Car ran 8.80 @155. The car was mostly street driven, and had an aluminum front drum. The weight and rear gear are hard on the trans. It handled it without complaints.

I think a 3.20-3.50 rearend gear would be good with a glide. Seems turbo setups LOVE LOAD.
Mopar to the bone!!!

How would you build a sb 727 to live behind a 1200 hp turbo g3 hemi street strip car weighing 3700-3900lbs? What kind of converter? Should include a trans brake.
Thanks for you input.
Talk to some guys that run that much power, especially on radials. None of them will recommend very much starting line ratio. A 2 speed will work well at your power level. Even a 3.55 with a 2.45 1st gear will be WAY to much. Doug

Had a 727 when I was running 8.3's at 3600 lbs, wouldn't hold on the brake spooling when I tried to launch under lots of boost and was on borrowed time at that hp level. Sold it before it came apart while it was still worth money and went to an extreme automatics TH400. Best money ever spent.

My converter was done by Frank Lupo at Dynamic. It had a custom stator and "mechanical diode" instead of a sprag. It worked great for me, but my car had a pretty unique staging/ engine control strategy that was easy on both the engine and trans while on the brake. I wanted to try a tighter converter, so I ordered a PTC. It was in the car for a day. It did not work well for me. It felt like I could drive right through it if I wanted to. I put the dynamic back in and never tried anything else. but don't let me talk you out of the TH400 like EFI DART was talking about. He's got his act together, and has for quite awhile.
