I have replaced the hall effect, starter relay, asd, and cut off relay along with coil. cranks great won't fire up. with key on no power to coil, but no short in the wire, is that normal? or could the ign switch be bad? I am at a loss on this one i have tried everything... HELP!

hotwire the coil and see if it fires.

then check at the bulkhead connector for power. it could be that or the switch.

Ignition switch could be bad. If I remember an '88 still has a spark control computer of some sort? Been a long time, last one I worked on, it got tossed and installed a Mopar electronic ignition conversion kit.

Sorry, don't think so. I was thinking of an '86 (carbureted) when I typed that.

wait.
you hot wired the coil and it still didn't fire?
then it might not be the switch.

is this a lean burn setup?

Have you checked fuel pressure?

Check for codes. Throttling up and getting no response could be either TPS or fuel regulator.

If it's idling pretty well, then them holley lawn sprinklers are probably okay. Wouldn't hurt to plumb a pressure gauge in the hose to test the actual pressure though.

check for lose ground wire. the local Dodge dealer replaced
two "brains" in my '88 D250 before I found a lose wire
that was killing the computer.
if you fine a lose wire, you might have a bad "brain".

did you set base timing properly ( coolant sensor unplugged)? is the map sensor hooked up? vacuum and electrical ? throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor. you really need a scan tool to read what the sensors are doing, otherwise keep throwing parts at it. grounds are very important. you can try and tap lightly on the computer, sometimes if it is bad, the tapping will make something happen, it should not studder at all when hit,Light tap NO big hammers.
