Saw these for sale and wondering if anyone can give me any pros/cons on these headers :

http://www.sandersonheaders.com/Sanderson-DD8-Small-Block-Chrysler-Blockhugger-Header-Set.html

I was going to go the TTI route. I'm just not sure which headers are best as far as performance/fit. I'd rather not have to do a ton of stuff to get headers to fit in my Demon.

Dougs D453

Check autozone with a 20% off code. About 525ish delivered for a set of coated full length header.

They are less than tti, fit without the tubes going around the steering linkage and will be better perfroming than the 1.5" tubes on those block huggers.

I'd be interested to see how those fit. It sounds like there might be some steering column issues. I just ordered TTI's at the Nats. They haven't arrived yet. I have a feeling they are going to hang too low. I need to mock them up to see. A shorty would give me more ground clearance.

I have Doug's on a smallblock in a 71 b body with power steering and column shift auto. Fit is perfect and they don't hang low. Didn't have to remove any steering linkage to get them in. Thick guage tubing and flanges. Quality item.

The only thing to note: You need a mini starter with Doug's can't speak for any other brands.

I looked at a-bodies at the Nats. With as low as I want the front end, it will be close. The car I'm modeling my car after couldn't use them because they were too low. The only way to find out is to mock them up. I just received the headers today. It will be awhile before the engine is back together to test fit.

What is a good rule of thumb as far as ground clearance to have?

Nuff said. Plenty of ground clearance.

Not necessarily when you want to go this low... I saw a few that had the front end a little higher and they only had around 4" to the ground.

Pay alitle attention when googling and you will find that the isue with the steering column seems to be on a early A-body those are real narrow and i think they would be ok on -67 and newer A bodys and probably everything else.

I have TTI full length and I have to be real carefull over speedbumps. I always scrap on large ones. IIRC, the bottom of my K-member is somewhere around 4" off ground. I've heard dougs are a little bit more ground clearence.

If you are not worried abount the HP loss, the TTI shorty will give you max clearence. And if you are looking for absolute max clearence, I would get a very good custom exhaust shop to custom tailor your pipes to get them as close to your specific car as you can handle.

I'll find out once they are mocked up and the ride height set. If they end up being too low, I doubt I'll have trouble selling them.

Its good to see another header offering where the tubes do not route so low! The price is nice too at $355. So smallblock mopar folks have some good $$ options. We can get cheapies that hang low (made of thin steel as well) for under $180. The Sandersons offer thick steel and ground clearance for $350 (yes small tubes and raw steel) From there Dougs are $460- to $630 Raw vs coated. Then the TTIs at near $800 and the super nice Schumachers also near $800. Right now with my intended use and power output I like the Sanderson shorties. When a header is made form heavy duty steel I noticed even high heat spray can paint holds up very well on them. On the typical cheapy super thin Black Jack type headers the paint- as well as the thin steel were cooked and flaky rusted within months.

Keep old mopars alive.

The Dougs are a good bargain and fit well, as do the TTI's, but at a price. I have the TTI's, but my car's stance is a bit high as I live in Queens, N.Y….. where the roads are shot. But ground clearance wouldn't be an issue as they fit tight against the undercarriage.

Now, if your going TTI's with a 4 speed w/ scatter shield, break out your air saw….and have a torch handy to massage your Z bar.

Dougs can be had for 350-500ish before tax through autozone with free shipping.

I'm not sure but I remember them being brought up when I asked about headers. They can be installed from the top with the motor in place. Talk about making a guy . If they lowered their price to within $50 of TTI they would gobble up all of TTI's sales.

Schumachers: According to the installation instructions, they are nearly as much work to install as TTI or Doug's.

TTI Shorties: Supposedly being reworked for better fit in the A-bodies. See their website for limitations they know of. The ones in Steve's pic are probably fine for E & B bodies, but may run too close to the driver side frame rail for some '67 up A bodies. Shift linkage may need modification.

Sanderson Shorties: Not seen a set that fit without modification, either in person or on a forum. With enough digging on FABO, you can find a couple of people of tried. Note that Sanderson sells or has sold a couple of different shorty headers. Perhaps they've made modifications in the last couple of years to the same part number....

If you do buy them, please let us know how it works out.

If you don't want to spend a lot of time fitting and modifying, or even chance it, then the TTI and Doug model listed early consistantly gets the thumbs up in the forums. Both have decent potential for more torque and horsepower. The stepped tube TTI's could have an edge at the track on a larger displacement or higher revving engine.
