1997, V6, stick. When I let off the gas to shift, the RPM's seem to hang between 12-1500rpm's, the after a couple seconds, drops back to around idle (just at/under 1000rpm's).The last couple days it sometimes revs up to around 2000, then drops back.

I wouldn't think it would be the cable, but is there a relay or sensor not allowing it to go to rest? also, can the idle be slowed down a trifle?

the most common issue is the IAC motor attached to the throttle body they get gummed up and lazy sometimes you can clean the bore and iac motor.

other times it requires the iac to be replaced

Question once the vehicle is at full operating temp does the idle act correctly if so iac motor replacement required

good luck Ryan and Jim

Acts pretty much the same, hot or cold.

Which side is it located on? Can you do the thottle body cleansing and catch it?

Thanks

Since I posted this, it's been revving up around 2000 rpm's when I engage the clutch, eventually throttling down to around 1000. Also, it threw a code, then a day or so later it went out.

Took off the throttle body, removed the sensors/relays, cleaned out all ports, does seem to run better, but still idles around 1000 rpm's, seems high to me.

Does idle a little smoother, threw the "check engine" light though, a couple days afterwards. I'll probably replace the IAC soon.

thanks!
