Funny this subject should come up ..... MOPAR has a 2014 calendar dedicated to the 50 years of the 426 HEMI.

My copy, of course, was sitting on top of a TV not hanging from a wall as it should be. Last month someone asked if I saw the details of June's "tidbits" of info printed on the calendar? Here's June's.

This Charger R/T's "scheduled production date" was: June 18, 1971.

Sorry it doesn't mention specifics for a last 'Cuda or Challenger.
..... but this GB5 4-spd '71 HEMI'Cuda is generally accepted as being the last "KNOWN" HEMI e-body built (early June).

Thanks for the info ! - I had thought the "cut-off" would have been
earlier in the year due to the lead time necessary for the new model
changeover....

How early in June Dan...I know of an original owner documented FC7 Hemi Challenger June 16.

Well, it's on a Mopar calendar so it must be true

And it's posted on the Internet so it's absolutely, positively, indisputably true.

JS23R1B435xxx.

When the owner sat down to order the car, the salesman told him it was too late in the year for a hemi motor, he would have to wait a while and order a 72 model, largest motor 340.
Bill told the dealer to forget it, that he was going to Ford and could still order a 429 Cobra Mustang.
Next day the salesman called saying they spoke with Chrysler and the order could be processed.
Car was ordered FC7, auto, 15x7's, front and rear spoilers plus a few more options.
Had one repaint, then 6 or 7 years ago the Challenger was hit on rear 1/4 by an old lady while owner was turning into a local car show.
Waited a couple years for insurance to find an NOS quarter, found and installed, then car was repainted again....still retains original drivetrain.
Owner told me he would have liked a shaker hood but that would have added one more car payment.
When the car came in, it had front spoiler pkge in trunk like should be, however there was both Challenger and Cuda front spoiler pkges.
The dealership, not knowing any different, installed both the Cuda and Challenger chin spoilers on the car which it still carries today.

The 1971 Hemi Challenger that Mccannix talks about in his post is the last known 1971 Hemi Challenger build. The Orange 1971 Hemi Challenger that was posted with picture is the second last one known to be built and then the 1971 FC7 Hemi Challenger out of Ontario, Canada is the third Last one known to of been built. All have a June build date on their door stickers. The Last Hemi Challenger built was likely assembled after June 23, 1971 and possibly a little later do to I believe assembly line parts shortages. When I talked to the original owner of the last 1971 Hemi Challenger built back in the early 80s he told me that he was told via either paper work or by Chrysler via phone that his 1971 Hemi Challenger was the last one built. I had seen him at the first CCCC meet (Mopar Nationals)with his Challenger that was parted beside the third last built Hemi Challenger in a parking lot. What I do not remember is if it was the last 1971 Hemi Car built. He has a Nephew on the board that might be able to add some information on the car.

The last know 1971 Hemi Cuda built is the Blue one pictured in an earlier post. It was built before two of the three Hemi Challenger in this post that were built in June.

You have to say known because no one has the complete build information on all Hemi E Bodies built by Chrysler in 1971.

Hemicar1971,

I know that this is an old post but I just ran across it. I have got a photocopy of the buildsheet and the fender tags for Bill's car. It does have a June, 16th SPD. Pretty cool. If you want, PM with your number and I will give you a shout. I would love to relay the story of how he ordered and purchased the car. It is a pretty cool story.

I looked at the car two years ago. It was all apart but painted. At the time I had driven my "J" code '68 GTX up from VA to NY and I offered to trade him straight up but he just laughed. He has since gotten it back on the road and is burning rubber. I am happy for him. I will see him and the car next month when I go up to see my folks.

Stan
