A close friend of mine appears to have blown the head gasket in his 2006 charger with a 3.5 after the electric fans failed in 90 degree heat

It appears to now be hydro locked

How tolerant are these aluminum motors and heads to this situation?

Is it junk as I suspect?

Thank you

If it is over 100,000 miles, I'd stick a used heart in it and keep driving it. One other thing he needs to consider....if the engine got that hot, then the transmission will definitely need serviced.

You won't know till ya take it apart of course. Most of the new stuff is pretty intolerant of bad overheat conditions. Warped heads, twisted heads so cams no longer fit correctly, warped block deck surfaces and egg shaped cylinders come to mind.Good luck with it.

i have an 06 charger with 160,000 miles on it, the thermostat housing sprung a leak and before i knew it, it over heated to the point where i had to wait an half hour to let it cool down, before the motor would even turn over. long story short, i topped it back off and it kept over heating, i thought it was a head gasket, before a friend enlightened me to the fact that you need to bleed the cooling system,i consider my self a car guy, but bleeding a cooling system was new to me, so i'll ask, did he bleed the cooling system? My charger still runs like new. and it got hot

i just realized you said it was hydrlocked??? either way its a pretty tuff motor, i was told people get 250,000 to 260,000 miles before having to put a timing belt on.

Car only has 56k on it.

Appreciate the responses

We pulled a plug and I immediately smelled antifreeze and saw telltale signs on the plug

We will dig a little deeper

It will not even turn over starter sounds bad but we could barely turn over with a breaker bar on the crank claims no CE light until it shut off when he pulled over
Thank you
