Made some changes yesterday on the 68`. Removed the .920 t-bars and installed .880 t-bars. Swapped 90/10 shocks replacing OEM style. Removed sway-bar. And.......changed the blower drive ratio. Went from 2.23 ratio to 2.72 ratio. Made 3-lbs boost @ 2.23 ratio Now makes 6-lbs. with 2.72 ratio. Took it for a drive WOW! what a difference... So went to Quaker again tonight expecting to see improved hook and more power, did`nt exactly work out that way. #1 1.71-60ft. spun bad lifted at 1,000 hoping to stay above 11.50. #2 1.69-60ft. spun 11.50@116.23mph. #3 Backed timing down to 28* and did harder burnout right up to the starting-line. 1.56-60ft. PULLED left wheel off the GROUND!! WOW ran 11.35@115mph!!! New Best Now the bad,,,, trans. has waved the white flag. Slips into 3rd. Its a stock rebuild with my manual-valebody thrown in it. What I learned this trip: When it can get on top of the tires and spin on the street its a beast, feels ALOT more powerfull at 6-lbs boost than 3-lbs.Even at 30 MPH in 2nd gear it will come around under throttle. More boost didn`t make any faster only harder to hook up. 3lbs versus 6lbs no real gain More RPM on the shifts improves MPH,,slows E.T. More timing is quicker, but harder to hook. So I`m thinking for max performance: more gear, more converter, more traction........

uh oh
Mission Creep
Congratulations!
So me knowing almost nothing about boost: is it true that if you raised the boost to 14.7 psi then you would effectively doubled the displacement of the engine?
Then why didn't the mph pick up when you went from 3 to 6 psi?

I`m having fun just seeing what it will do right now,has already exceeded my goal. I would need to put in a roll-bar to really go much further. Getting a 1.56-60ft. and getting one wheel off the ground was a suprise!! 3.30 gear and stock converter??? Never would have beleived it
I am yet to understand how I doubled boost and saw no power with it. Tried less timing/more timing/ jet/RPM no real benefit............
I am VERY happy with its road manners/driveability and would have to really think long and hard to ruin that..... Overdrive????
Me thinks you have a undiagnosed problem, maybe fuel related When you jetted it up did it affect the 330 and 1/8 mile times? If so how much, better or worse? I've seen a fuel supply problem affect the 330, 1/8 mile and 1000 times but not show up in the 1/4 mile times and ET You have to look at all the numbers on the time cards for the changes, if it affects, good or bad , part of the track but not the end of the 1/4 you need to figure out why Let us know what you see on those slips, maybe we can help

Hmmmm,,, except for the carb. being too small for max power. I don`t think it is supply/ AFR related. The AFR numbers change with every fuel change. Have made runs as rich as 11.6 to lean as 12.4 makes no difference in MPH or ET. other than it TRIES to leave harder at the leaner AFR`s. Plugs are white-clean. Leary of trying anything leaner. But its possible thats what it wants. But can`t get the improved power to the ground. Pulling timing helps traction alot. So to bracket race if I pull some timing its pretty consistent. One thing it still does that I thought was odd: it really starts pulling at the 1,000ft. mark. When it was doing that with the slower drive ratio I figured as did others what I`m seeing the blower/boost is just getting to the sweet spot. So the blower needs to turn faster. 2.23 =11,150 @5,000 2.72=13,600 @5,000 recommended MAX 14,000rpm Even with the faster ratio I still feel it. AFR does`nt change but you can definetly feel it start to pull near the finish line.

Man you're maiking me sorry I ever let that bad boy go.... Think about it, you have the power to go high tens EASILY, you just got to get it to the ground and not frag the drivetrain in doing it. If your trans is letting go gradually it's been holding you back way before then. On my motor I had an 833 4 speed and a 3.54 Dana so I wasnt worried much about tearing the drivetrain apart....I was much more concerned about buckling the quarter panel/roof welds out of my recently restored 70 Charger R/T Get a fresh trans and put some real slicks on it and see what it does.

After the first night they said I had to wear a jacket. Never said anything about a rollbar yet. So I've been wearing my SFI jacket and they have been fine with that. .....
