Hi all,
The transmission in my Barracuda won't go into second gear.
Shifts from first to drive, but skips second. Won't mesh manually either??
Am I going to have to pull out the trans to fix it?
Anyone ever encounter such an issue?
Any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Does it have the kickdown linkage removed or way out of adjustment?

Pull the pan and look for a metal bar about 3" long. If you find it it is the strut for the front band. If you caught it early it may not have ruined the surface of the front drum and you can reassemble it.

Any thoughts,

before pulling the pan I'd check the setting on the kickdown band. I ain't sayin the strut is still in place but if it ain't you'll know it when you check the adjuster

Funny, exactly the same thing happened to me last weekend. I guess something has made the adjuster come loose but I had no time to check. With a little luck it will be possible to put the band back if you take down the valve body...
