I can't believe with all my Mopar books I can't find the main bore min-max size for a 400. Thanks for your help.

Well the stock-min size for the 400 is 4.342. As for max, less is better. Keep the bores as thick as possible. Dont try to gain CI with the bores.

You're not going to find anyone publishing a "max overbore". It depends on the particular block you're working with. Have it sonic checked.

Yes, what I need is the main bore spec. An RB is 2.9425-2.943 but I don't have the Chrysler specs for a B engine. Thanks.

Look in a clevite bearing book, it lists all housing bore sizes.

I have that book but I would rather hear it from Chrysler.

There should be a high and low spec. When line honing 5 main bores at once it would be a little difficult to hit them all at the same time within a tenth.

Thats why I said check other data... this didnt have
a max/min.. all the other data on that engine did
show max/min

I use an old Vandervell bearings catalog (#112) which has most measures in inches and metric. For the B Mopar engine it reads:
Main bearing housing 2.8175"-2.8180"
Crankpin mains 2.6245" - 2.6255"
I have used these measures both for checking/lineboring and crankgrinding and it works out fine; I normally grind the crank at 2.6250 as a base for the undersizes. Hope this helps you out!
