Been trying to find info for a friend who has the stalling after fill-up problem that has plagued earlier Hemi cars. 2005 300C. The web shows that it was a known tank problem and a limited recall was done on some cars to replace the tank. Some said they took the vacuum line that goes from the intake manifold to the purge solenoid (all under the hood) and insert in line a fuel filter that traps the fuel and then bleeds it slowly. Anyone know of this or any other "fixes" that might work without pulling the tank?
Thanks
Kazi

there is a diagnose only
TSB for the 2005 vehicles that suffer from this

http://www.xkjeeps.com/TSB/tsb_xk_1400109a.pdf

my mother's 2005 3.3 minivan developed this same problem suddenly at about 50,000 miles and 7.25 years, just past the 7 year extended warranty she bought which would have covered the $700 tank replacement.

the suggestion to put a large internal volume fuel filter in the vacuum line to the purge solenoid sounds like it might have potential as a fix.

even better might be a large vacuum reservoir like you see on some commercial trucks

tank toppers.... gotta get every drop of gas you can in there. Saturates the charcoal canister and over time damages the system and wah-la! Stalling issue.

Is this the correct TSB? This one refers to the tank being hard to fill or the nozzle shutting off repeatedly. I believe the OP is referring to the car stalling shortly after tank fill up. Our 05 Caravan does this all the time--about killed me a couple times leaving the gas station...

And no, I don't "squeeze every drop in"...

My 05 Magnum R/T does the same thing if you let is go until the pump kicks off. So I usually only fill it 3/4 full which is a pain sometimes. I've read that the 05's have a big problem with the fuel tank. And it's not from trying to get every last drop in them.

FWIW We bought a used 2005 durango with the hemi engine with 50K miles on it. Our problem was it would puke out gas all over the ground when it got full no matter how slow we filled it. It never stalled though.

I called the dealer and they were not aware of a recall on it at first. I called back a couple months later and then they were aware of a recall.

WE took the vehicle in and they replaced the whole gas tank. Wife fills it up and takes it to work. The full tank leaked all over the ground in her work parking lot. Called the dealer and they came and towed it back to the dealer. They said a plastic fitting cracked when they installed the tank. They installed a second new tank it don't leak gas anymore and don't puke it out when it get's full. It doesn't stall either. It didn't cost us any money for the new gas tank.

But now I get a code every once in while that indicate a small Evap leak which I'm pretty sure is on the top of the tank. I just keep clearing the code, sometimes it takes months for it to come back.

What a screwy deal... Now the body is rusting like crazy, not real happy or proud of our 2005 durango.

Did you ask the dealer if there is a recall for the problem? Check this out... web page
