I purchased a gallon can of this 35% nitro mix back in 1996 in the hopes that as an additive for my high compression GTX it might save on trips for buying 98-100 Octane fuel. Fast forward 18 years and the metal can is still factory sealed out in my garage. Price Chemical made the mix and it comes with coolant and oil lubricant additives. It's meant to be a hp boost vice an octane booster. Mfg suggested mixing ratio was 1-40 when added to premium unleaded or blue AV fuel. The container says 1 quart but it's clearly a gallon container. Possibly, they're saying it's 1 quart of pure nitromethane. In reading up on nitro fuels they are also used in radio-controlled "hobby" engines, though typically at lower nitro mixes of 10-25% (helo's, cars, planes, boats, etc.) My thoughts were to be able to give to this someone who might actually have a use for it. Even as a nitro mix it still has its energy value. Not sure yet if the local household hazwaste facility would even accept this. If stored properly, nitro/methanol fuels can/should last nearly indefinitely. That means sealed opaque containers/drums, stable temps w/o condensation, metal, etc. The cap is still tight on my container though it was never fully filled from the manufacturer. If not vacuum sealed from the factory that air pocket would have probably causes some condensation and oxidation inside the can. Any ideas on what to do with this stuff? I initially thought I could mix a few ounces per tankful in my 87 octane daily driver pump gas and get rid if it that way. With nitro being based on nitric acid, it's corrosive to copper and other metal alloys. Not sure I want to chance that doing something destructive to my car's engine. And it's probably safest if I don't even open the stuff. Thanks

At least around here.. you CANT give it to the household waste... thats considered a explosive... you might call the waste company and ask WHERE you can get rid of it... I know I use 15% in my RC plane, car and boat... OR take it to the track (if they have fuel sales there) and give it to the fuel people

just mix in a very little when you fill up, bet you couldn't tell it was there.
I know I couldn't tell. I'm just wondering if my engine or fuel system might be able to tell. But, that's certainly a possibility if others chime in and say they've done something similar w/o negative outcomes. Thanks for the inputs so far.
The can doesn't say "explosive" on it, just "flammable/poison."

I would think at this point, the "greenest" solution would be to simply use it in small quanties/ratios as a fuel additive, until gone. But then if they dump 35 mill gals of water because of a pee prank, you might to to jail.
That was STUPID... like fish and other critters dont pee or do-do.... and when drained they are gonna clean and disinfect the holding area.... and with a water shortage...brilliant.. glad I have my own well

I'm on the CT shore near the base if you want to get rid of it, I'm thinking could be fun with a 318 Dart I have tucked into one corner of the yard.
Did you get it from Chet's back in the day? I almost picked up a gallon of the stuff when he was located in the "new building" slash truck repair facility.

Sounds like a reasonable solution to me. I'm about 15 miles from the base. I used to get my Sunoco 100+ at a speed shop around Preston, CT. Could have been Chet's. I probably got that nitro through him. I'll send you a PM and see if we can find a place to meet up or to drop it off.

Don't tell anybody "official" you have it, or you'll be looking at paying for a haz-mat team to lock down your county. Those idiots see everything as overtime and anti-terrorism, in that order. I'd walk it over to my fire department with a note on it - "found this in a dumpster, not sure what it is" and leave before they see you.
