1989 SHELBY DAKOTA ELECTRIC FANS PICTURES DESPERATELY NEEDED This is a call to all Shelby Dakota owners to please either email me pics or tell me how the fans get mounted in the truck. I bought a Red Shelby Dakota and the week before I bought it someone had stolen the radiator out of the truck but thank god they left the fans on the ground. Well I have searched everywhere looking for detailed pics or diagrams and came up empty. Please email me at moparrush at y a h oo com with any and all help. I greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely
Bob

It will be Friday before I see my truck again but I could take pictures then if you still need them.

Still needs some pics of the fans of a Shelby Dakota so I can figure out how they go back on the truck. Pics or a drawing or any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i can't take pics, i'm in some godforsaken hellhole called iowa. (do you know it snows in iowa, in the middle of april? nice. ) anyhow, the radiator mounts to the back of the rad support, like it would in any truck. don't forget the spacers, and the bushings on the bottom. the fans mount to the front side of the rad support. once you have mounted the fans (they can only go on one way really, with the fans open side to the radiator) the wires go on the radiator side, and here should be a clip to hold the wires, in the center of the fan frame.

you then install the condenser for the a/c, if you're running it. the condenser has metal brackets that mount it to the rad support with a screw up top on each side, and a screw at the bottom, where the rad support curves in towards the centerline. the lines go through the square hole on the upper passenger side of the rad support.

sorry no pics, but the truck is at home. you might find some pics of the setup, in my "look what followed me home" thread, in this truck forum.

Do I have to pull the condenser out to mount the fans and radiator? Just trying to get a pic in my head of what I need to do. I'm not sure if I have all the hardware that is supposed to be used to get the fans back in. Like I said the radiator was stolen out of the truck and the fans thrown on the ground when the owner discovered what had happened. Thanks for the help and if there are any other Shelby owners want to step up with some pics than pleeeease do. Pics are worth a thousand words they say. Or if you want to sketch it out for me and email it to moparrush @ yahoo account I would appreciate that as well.

the radiator mounts behind the rad support. the condenser has nothing to do with this. there are rubber bushings with metal inserts that mount the radiator to the support. the condenser has to be unscrewed, and swung out of the way, towards the passenger fender. obviously the grill, center support, headlight surrounds also have to come off first. the grill has tapered supports between it, and the rad support. make note of them, when you remove the grill, so they go back in on the right sides, in the proper position.

once you unscrew the condenser, pull it straight gently away, towards the left. (looking at it, from the front of the truck) find the plug for the fans, and plug them in. make sure the wiring harness for the fans is secured to the fan frame, and is secured across the top of the fan shroud to keep wires away from the fans. (test the fan motors first, to make sure they work)

once the radiator is installed, filled, etc., and before you put it all back together, start the truck, and turn the a/c on max. (presuming the a/c is charged, and works) the fans should both kick on. run the truck to operating temp, and one fan should kick on. if this works, put the rest of the stuff back together.

my fans run off of a fan controller and temp probe, inserted between the fins of the radiator, so i wont need the comp to run them, when i pull the entire computer controlled stuff from the truck. the radiator and fan setup is really quite simple, and you should be able to see the marks on the rsd support, where the fans were mounted originally.

Yes that is what I meant is does the condenser have to come out of the way in order to get the fans in and mounted.
Really appreciate it, and I'll go look at it again...hopefully tonight. Thanks.

There are four bolt hole mounting points on the fan. Setting the fan in as you mentioned, it doesn't appear that these holes line up with anything on the radiator support. (Sorry if I'm confused) but does the fan bolt to the radiator itself? Or does it mount to the rad support? At the bottom there are two drilled out sections of the radiator support (approximately 1+ inch holes on each side at the bottom. Are these used for something? I have a regular cap Dakota 3.9 that doesn't have these. Well thanks again.

truck is 1500 miles away, so i'm helping you with a faded memory. try the fan, with the open side facing the engine, on the backside of the rad support. see if the holes line up with the radiator mounting tab holes. if this is the case, the condenser can stay in place. mine had to be moved, as my fan is mounted in the front of the support, but it still seals to the rad, due to the shroud on it. my shroud is slightly different than the stock metal frame and shroud, but i still have the original, and a spare. maybe YOU should be the guy posting pics, for us to see.....

Ok here is the pics of what I have. I bought a radiator which is the same size as that OEM one. I laid the fan on it and it appears that this is where it mounts up to, and then the radiator to the support. So I may have answered my own question, but here's the pics if anyone else is interested. Thanks.

when you put the radiator into the rad support, do your mounting holes line up? do you have the isolator/bushings, that mount between the rad and the support?if this rad lines the holes up (all rads aren't the same, even though they are the same size. you need a 89 v-6 dakota radiator for an automatic) then remove it, and place the fans inside the opening, and line up the holes for it.

i don't see the wiring harness to plug in the fans, coming from the computer/relays. the "1 inch holes" were added by someone in the past, to access a hidden nut, or a tool/nut dropped into the hollow void, of the support core.

I have the lines tucked out of the way coz I was doing other work on the engine coz the previous owner broke of exhaust manifold bolts in the heads, and I had to drill and retap them. Not to mention replacing the drivers fender coz it had been trashed too. So that is why you don't see it. The last pic is one of my convertible Dakota which has the smaller radiator with a/c, but it doesn't line up with the fans at all. I've looked at pics on the internet of other Shelby Dakota engine bays and it uses the larger (I think 25" wide) radiator instead of the v6 21" one. I.e. the fans dwarf the smaller radiator which I pulled out of my convert Dakota to see if there is a difference. Maybe I'm missing something? I do have the rubber bushing with isolators, but then again if you look at pics of other Shelby Dakota's the radiator isn't mounted like the v6 ones with the bushings on top. They appear to be side mounted because it's a wider radiator. What do you think?

Oh and the radiator in the first pic is the wider one with the mounting dog ears on the side which just happen to line up with the fans.

you know they put those holes on each side of the core support and in the same identical spot. I'm wondering if this is something Shelby motor's did.
I have another Shelby dak core support I'm going to pull it down from storage and see if it's the same way.
