Anything I should be aware of before I replace the fuel pump on my 06 ram 2500? Does the tank need to be completely empty before dropping it down? Any tips?

The less fuel the better.I did a bunch of pumps at work.Seems most were over 1/2 full.We had a pump to empty them but it took time and wore your arm out.Sometimes the lines are stuck.I always sprayed them with penetrating fluid. But most were older and living in the rust belt.Test the pump before you get the tank all buttoned down.I usually hooked them all up and got them high enough to connect to the line and electrics then with say a few gallons tried them.Had a few new bad pumps.Rocky

Are you sure it needs replaced? The '06 trucks really don't have the issues with them that the earlier trucks did.

On a 1995 I removed the cargo box bolts to the frame on the drivers side and loosened the bolts on the passenger side, took loose the hoses to the fill cap door, then used the tire change jack and two blocks of wood to raise the cargo box at a 45 degree angle to expose the top of the pump assembly. Watch that you dont pinch wiring near the license plate.

Also be very careful and gentle when removing the "Roll Over Valve" as most new pump assemblies don't have one and expect you to reuse the old one. I ended up using a Dremel tool to cut the old plastic away to free it.

Have a fire extinguisher nearby,
and several rags to wipe up gasoline.

When i examined the fuel tank level sensor the ceramic had cracked. My fuel level gauge had been working but never went as high as it had new.

On the 1995 pump assembly the fuel pressure regulator looked like it was fairly easy to change to one of higher pressure.

Hey now I did that on my old Ram Charger. The outlet was leaking and the guard for the tank which is plastic was rusted solid.I couldnt cut the bolts off without a big fire.So I cut the rear floor bent it up and changed the sender.Pushed the piece back down and sealed it.With the carpet over it you never knew it was done.It was my plow hunting truck so it was pretty beat with 300K on it.Rocky
