I need a little info before doing this myself or taking to dealer. The Dakota will jump in 4 low or 4 high, without turning the knob, then jump back all on its own, the switch will still work if turned to either. After another escapade last nite, drove home in 4 low (till the driveway)then normal, sitting in park touched the brake pedal, right back in 4 low. With the key off and out i can still hear it trying to move in and out. ANY IDEAS, HELP

Drive though any deep water lately? Shift motor on T-case could be full of water making is have a mind of its own. Faulty switch, Integrated Power Module to list other possible causes. Getting the DTC's read at the dealer should be your next step before something gets damaged.

Thanks for reply, it has not been in any water. Another question, is the shift motor hot wired and cabin switch a ground or the hot wire goes throughout the cabin switch to shift motor?

Not all dealers are the same. We have a standard fee for diagnostic scan and its competitive to most all the independent garages in the area. A lot of people assume its gonna be expensive. So don't get out the vasaline yet...until you have to buy the parts Lol
