hey guy's we have a good armdrop thing going here they run at an old airstrip and the folks there won't let them prep the track. my street car with normal street tires hooks good at the strip as they can spray, but at the airfield well....lets just say it is slick! so this year I want to get some drag radials to use just for these events. my street tires are 275-60-15 I can smoke em hard with my 3.23 gears! at the airfield. this year I would like to run a shorter tire and my 3.91's so I know I will need a lot more bite. car is nothing fancy just a built 360 with some converter in a 74 charger with a 727 I was thinking of going with 275-50-15 mt et street radials it will drop a my tire down into the 26 inch range from about 28 inches. how are the et street radials? are there better tires? price is not the main factor I just want to smoke some mustangs as there are a lot of them there! with the gear I had last year it was basically a 2 speed that's why I am gearing up and dropping tire diameter. thanks

Radials don't work on non prepped tracks. But if it has to be a radial then the mickey Thompson pro in 275/60 is the best on the street, hands down. It is way better then my 295/65 Hoosier that I used to run.

yeah, thanks but I have had slicks before on other cars I don't think I am going to need to go that far with this car. I also want to use some steelies I have kicking around for these tires. I am really only looking for thoughts on drag radials. thanks

any thought on running a Hoosier Quick Time Pro?
or just drag radial only?

If you have to run a radial, get the M/T 275 pro (they only make them in 275-60). No other radial will work better than that tire.

Agreed. Should run a slick. With no prep more than likely you will have to peddle more than not. Radials are not very forgiving. A slick will hook back up where a radial will not most of the time.

Or try to find a bias ply or a dirt track McCreary or M&H.Something that will wrinkle/bite and maybe give better traction.

My Micky 275x60's work at least twice as good as my normal street tires - on the street - even though they aren't very forgiving. I have to add lots of ballast to make them work on my truck.

Forget about making any radial work good on a non prep surface The M/T ET Streets bias plys work a lot better on a non prep surface than any radial I've seen My 3450 lb. pump gas stroker 518 C.I. Duster ran in the mid to low 10s with the bias plys on a bad track on E.T.Street bias plys, the same size M/T Strret Radial would go sideways on the starting line and spin agian on the gear shift, they where slower overall at the bad track on back to back runs Same thing on the street, the radials at 18 to 22 lbs of pressure would break loose and make my car go sideways on the street in high gear at or above 45 MPH , the bias ply E.T. Streets wouldn't do that a the same pressures If I let the pressure down on the E.T. Streets to 10 to 12 lbs they would spin a tiny bit on the street from a dead stop but once the caught they stayed hooked up all the rest of that run

My suggestion is to stay with the tallest tire you can get in there. It will help bite off the line- which is what you're looking for. Put that 3.91 in there too!
On the cop rims, a 275/60 is a good choice. I just bought a pair of bias-ply American Racer (used to be McCreary). Man they look soft. Obviously have not had them out in the winter here. Super prices! My 305/60's were $150/pair. but here's the website:
http://americanraceronline.com/racing-tires/passenger.html

I'd recommend these:
L-60-15(4); P265/60D-15(4)in DD compound- 28" tall.

See ya at the next event!
As for tire i run the 31x16.5 Hoosier Quick Time Pro's.
I went through the radial, bias ply phase yrs ago and a bias ply slick or cheater slick like what i run or the M/T ET Streets will hook better on tracks with no to poor prep.Like mentioned the Sportsman Pro's are also a good choice cause they are softer than the regular Sportsmans and you won't get hassled by the police running a style like my Hoosiers or ET Streets.

You should also make sure the front end of the car has at least 5 inches of travel so the car will transfer some weight.

I had a set of Hoosier Dirt Bozz tires I bought at a swap meet for like $25 bucks. They worked quite well on the highway where we used to line em up.

ok so the deal seems to be radials and non prepped tracks not a good mix. now keep in mind my car is not a beast this one is a straight up street car about 350 hp a bit of converter but nothing serious I am just looking for something I can drive on so I don't have to break out the tools at the track. if I was running something more serious I would get some slicks.. I had some but they went with my old car.

The Hoosiers I ran had some tread, soft compound, AND.... we're DOT approved which came in handy when I was "questioned" by the authority on one occasion. I understand they don't make this tire anymore, but I'm sure one of the dirt track supplier still makes a "dot" approved tire as some entry level classes require them. Like I said, we could pick these tires up CHEAP at swaps and from dirt track guys.

I know you said you dont want slicks but some of the drag radials out there hook just as good as slicks do. I run a radial slick and drive on the street with them. I would use the drag radial but no body makes a 30 x 9 drag radial which is the size I use. But my 63 usually hooks pretty good even when the track is not prepped good. As long as I line up in the grove (tire marks) when I stage it will almost always hook good. Ron

The m/t et street bias ply is the tire for the street.... I have
them on my A12 and they hook real good just cruising around..
