I am trying to get the most grip out of a 9" slick and I have fitted a 8" rim on the car with no problem but a 9" may be too close to the quarter. Is the risk worth the reward here? Will there be a big advantage going from a 8 to a 9 inch rim?

Not as much as going from a 7" to an 8" ?

The 7" would be the minimum rim for a 9" slick so the
percentage of increase would be greater from going
from the 7" to 8" over the 8" to 9"... but it might
still be small

I gained about .75 of section width when I went from 10" wide to 12" wide rims with the same size tires.

I run a 9" tire also and I switched from a 7 to 8" rim and to be honest I did not pick up any et as it hooked good with the 7" wheel and 9" tire. Ron
