The factory spline ends were case hardened; more for wear than torsional strength.

Sounds like the gears are setup and ready to drop in.If thats the case assembley is pretty easy.Worst part would be installing the seals for the axles.Rocky

Buy the book linked above, buy the FSM, rear both till you understand it generally, then ask for tips. Right now you don't know enough to know what to ask.
Only tip you got that you can use right now is to pay someone else to do it.
