36dodge OP member 3 Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 58 NH	I have most of my parts, narrowed hsg, 742 center sect complete (non posi), narrowed axles. Do i need to make sure the ends are tuftrifted sp? Need advice to make sure its correct

If so ask the company you had do them about having them reheatreated I'm almost sure that they will say don't do it, run them the way they are I've never had a stock axle narrowed, I always bought new custom made ones Good luck, let us know what you decide to do Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. Polarapete top fuel P Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,751 Graham, WA	I had an axle (only one of the 2) on my latest Dana 60 project cut and resplined. I went to a driveline shop with the pinion yoke so that he could identify it before I brought in the driveshaft to be shortened. So I told him about my project and he told me that the Q&D method of testing for hardness on the recut splines is to take a file and run it across them, if it digs in it is too soft and will need a reheat. If the file skips across the splines it is good to go. And that is the case with my axle 1986 Dodge Ramcharger 440 2wd, Bracket Racer Under Construction 1998 Ram 2500 QuadCab, new daily driver. 2008 Honda Element 2014 Carry-On 7x14 Cargo Trailer

Get a factory service manual made for 1973 and earlier Mopar E bodys and follow its recommendations for setting the third member up and the rest of the rear end assembling Sometimes it is better to pay someone else to do what you don't know how to do for yourself, kinda like brain surgery AKA, it is very easy to mess up a gear set by not getting it set up properly to start with, trust me on that, I've learned that lesson already Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964.
