When you say "narrowed axles did you have the stock alxes cut and resplined? If so ask the company you had do them about having them reheatreated I'm almost sure that they will say don't do it, run them the way they are I've never had a stock axle narrowed, I always bought new custom made ones Good luck, let us know what you decide to do

The factory spline ends were case hardened; more for wear than torsional strength.

I had an axle (only one of the 2) on my latest Dana 60 project cut and resplined. I went to a driveline shop with the pinion yoke so that he could identify it before I brought in the driveshaft to be shortened. So I told him about my project and he told me that the Q&D method of testing for hardness on the recut splines is to take a file and run it across them, if it digs in it is too soft and will need a reheat. If the file skips across the splines it is good to go. And that is the case with my axle

You don't learn that from a book.
I gotta remember that one.

Get a factory service manual made for 1973 and earlier Mopar E bodys and follow its recommendations for setting the third member up and the rest of the rear end assembling Sometimes it is better to pay someone else to do what you don't know how to do for yourself, kinda like brain surgery AKA, it is very easy to mess up a gear set by not getting it set up properly to start with, trust me on that, I've learned that lesson already

Buy the book linked above, buy the FSM, rear both till you understand it generally, then ask for tips. Right now you don't know enough to know what to ask.

Only tip you got that you can use right now is to pay someone else to do it.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Sounds like the gears are setup and ready to drop in.If thats the case assembley is pretty easy.Worst part would be installing the seals for the axles.Rocky
