I have been working on replacing the exhaust gasketson my 68 super bee. It is a 426 hemi 727 automatic. It has been a few weeks in between removing them and installing them so my mind is a little faded.
I am wondering about the upper mounting point on the trans dipstick. I think it would go against the exhaust manifold and use the rear manifold bolt to attach it. As best I remember when I pulled it off it had a spacer behind it and was using the upper rear hole in the head above the rear manifold bolt. To me the bracket on the tube appears to have been bent upward to use that hole in the head. So I need to know what is correct so I can finsih the install. If anyone can help or mighthave a picture I would apprecaite it alot.
Thanks, Matt

I also guess there is the fact that some one might have modified my dipstick tube. Here is a picture.

I am thinking mine has been modified. I saw that one on ebay and that was what I figured. Thank you.

The automatic dipstick tube and dipstick are hemi specific. The tube mounted to the manifold; the rear stud that fastens the heat tube to the manifold. Also the dip stick is 2 pieces and riveted together.

I don't rememeber any of the stock street Hemi dipstick tubes mounting to the exhaust, the ones I remember where attached to the passenger side trans bellhousing bolts or had a small tab on the botom of the dipstick that was held into the trans case by a 5/16 bolt Maybe not I only worked on a few of the originals, not all years either

The '64-'65 Race Hemi tubes mounted to a bellhousing bolt, the Street Hemi mounts to the exhaust manifold.

I hope not to hijack the thread, but when one has headers inlew of exhaust manifolds and intake heat tubes on their 426 Hemi, can one use a regular B/RB auto dipstick/tube?

Thanks in advance...

I would say if you had headers and no intake heat tubes or choke tubes then you should be fine with the B/RB regular 727 dipstick.
But that would just be my guess. It is pretty crowded with all of the heat tubes, dip stick , and choke tubes.
Thanks for the pictures! I got the one on my car back on how they had it but it has been modified.

I don't think so, but maybe with the right year B body B/RB motor 727 dipstick application it wil clear the Hemi heads and firewall
