I have a 70 Dodge D 700 dump truck with a either a 360 motor or bigger. This truck ran and started fine before I let it sit for about 2 1/2 years of ever trying to start it. All I hear now when I try to start it is a click, click noise down either by the solonoid or in engine bay some where. I tried the old cross the solonoid with screwdriver trick but it did not engage the starter with key on. Just sparks flew. I banged on everything with hammer, starter and solonoid. Any ideas or just take out the starter and go from there?

This motor has the distributer in the front near the fan/water pump. What size motor would it be?

It'd be a big block & the only sizes available afaik would be a 383 or a 440. I dont think the 400 came out till 71 model year. Look at the smooth machined pad down by the dist for a stamped # as it might not have the original eng.

361 most likely pull the plugs on her & break out the socket & breaker bar & see if she's stuck

If she is then mix up one part gasoline to 3 parts trans fluid & put it in the plug holes & start playing

When was the 413/426 weined out of production? Id try tuning the motor by hand/breakerbar first to see if its possibly seized. Also.you didn't mention if you used a Known good battery or had a charger/jump box on it?

Most likely a 361. With a 4 barrel it could be a 413.

This is correct above... The only big Dodge engines available in a 700 series would be the 361 and the 413. They were used up to 75 for sure and maybe later in the larger D series trucks

Yes, it would be the 361 motor. It has a 2 barrel on it. Battery is in excellent condition. I use it every weekend for another truck and it is not week. Looks like I will try the breaker bar or drop the starter.

Thnks,

Even with a 2bbl it could still be a 413. As i understand it the industrial 413 could be had with a 2bbl intake.

The engine ID pad would let you know for sure.

A 361 is a B engine, a 413 is an RB. Those can be told apart by the Engine ID pad placement, if you scrape enough grease off the front of the engine.

Nowhere have you mentioned that you know the battery is actually good/fully charged?
