Does anyone know of a product or process to remove years of exhaust fumes and dirt from old bumpers.

Thanks!
Joey

Yes. There is a product used in the aircraft industry to remove exhaust residue from planes. Can't think of the name but you could goggle it. Reasonably priced too.

Easy, lacquer thinner. Works perfect! And will not harm chrome. Never use any Abrasive on chrome--that you care about!!!

From old guy at chrome shop, years ago . . . make up a slurry (wetter than a paste) of BON AMI and water . . .wipe on bumper and let dry. Then take towel and wipe off the haze, removes everything and leaves a shine that looks awesome ! The BON AMI is non-abrasive cleaner.

Ummmmm......BS. On old chrome that may be fine, on new pristine chrome stay away!

Are any of you posting real world experience or just what you read/heard about?

The reason the OP is asking is not for suggestions? he probably wants positive results feedback.

STEEL WOOL??? seriously?

0000 steel wool really does a good job at cleaning up old dirty chrome. It's fine enough that it doesn't scratch the finish but takes the dirt right off.

Real world experience using #0000 and M.E.K.
You should try it....
Or are you one of those that washes his car with distilled water and dries it off with allergen free Egyptian Cotton cloths yet doesn't know which end of a screwdriver to use.

He was talking about years of built up black carbon exhaust soot.

Don't you have a car show to go to?

take it easy....I got caught up in the postings and lost track of what the initial question was.

Now go put that screwdriver right up ya 4$$

I have no problem taking allergen free cotton to wipe off my car! I guess when you use a brush to apply paint you don't care how you care for it?
