Going to cut a truck Dana for my 65.I need measurements for the tubes.I believe the center is off set.Anyone have a Dana 60 for a 66 to 67 as they are a bit narrower than the 69 rears.I need measurements for left and right tubes.Im going to make mine 1/2 inch shorter on each side than a stock 65 rear.Rocky

I narrowed mine with the offset as mentioned above. I made my own jig also to keep axle true while welding everything up. I made some aluminum collars that bolted into the carrier with 1-1/2 dia holes. Then some collar for the ends that the new housing ends bolted to also with 1-1/2" dia holes & ran a solid 1-1/2 steel shaft thru the center of everything.

Over the last 15 years I have narrowed 3 Dana 60s for various projects and if I had the jig like was constructed above, I would be in business doing it in my garage Dana 60s are plentiful in the yards, the basic unit is stronger than anything else out there, the necessary upgrades are cheap, etc.. I have set-up bearings, a chop saw to cut tubes, a case spreader, the experience to build them and the humility to admit that I don't know it all.

We did it in a garage & for a one time use it worked just fine.

Maybe I didn't exactly word it correctly but essentially it was a knock off of the exact same kit you would by from Mark Williams, Strange or any of the rear ends shops for narrowing a housing.

Buy the steel rod and find someone with a lathe to make you the pucks. The instructions and dimensions are easy to find.

My buddy is a machinist, welder, fabricator with almost 40 years experience.Beside 3 lathes he has all the other equipment in his shop. That and his welds are so good that they look like they are cleaned up after he welds.I guess if you can weld nuclear stuff you must be good.Rocky
