Emil - 72Swinger... you're welcome to drive my car if we ever meet up somewhere!... road course, pylon autocross, etc. I hope to eventually get back into actual competition events.. I did the pylon autocrossing forever (1975~2002, and an accasional one here/there); since about 2009 I've been doing hi-speed road course lapping events (but at a minimal as $$ is tight)...

I suggest searching and joining a couple of clubs that host and put on sanctioned events... pylon autocrossing is low cost (~$25-$50/day, and some are 2-day events ... gets you about 5-10 minutes of track time/day avg speed ~40-55mph), while road course events are more expensive (~$135-250-275 per day, maybe $350/wknd of 2-days... giving you about 90-120 minutes of road course time avg speed ~55-85mph.. some a little higher mph). Clubs like cool cars that can also become their wheel-to-wheel race day "Pace Cars"... instead of the usual Toyota or Camaro/Mustang. Also, just making the typical drive to/from the events is cool in our cars.

Most clubs have good social gatherings after the race day or into the evening/overnight (BBQ, club parties/banquets, etc)... plus you meet new friends .. maybe even a spouse/wife!

Just be sure she isn't already someone else's wife.

But of course he meant 'future wife'. I'm still looking for someone who likes cars AND fishing AND dogs.

The possibility always exists that she could become faster than you... in your own car... then what do you do???... (take credit for teaching her all that she's learned?)

I know a woman that did that, and that was before she married her husband, in his car, on the drag strip tho, she was quicker. A friend said she was a good driver so I let her drive my highly modded '67 390 Mustang with a 4-spd and she had no trouble with it or the clutch, even on a hill from a stop at the stoplight.

Yes... Bob Boyce owns a few of them.. and he frequently has Mopar vintage driver Brian Garcia (#48 67 B'Cuda.. Gurney-ized TransAm car) driving his blue Cheeta.. they are wickedly fast.. running away from the pack!

2013 was the first year i sat out doing laps on Watkins Glen International since 1992. For many yrs I ran 2 events per yr. I have run plenty of junk on the track. 96 Dodge Intrepid ES, 200? SRT10 pickup, 1979 Chrysler Newport, 1970 Charger R/T, 1970 AAR Cuda.

Don't laugh now..but the intrepid would hit 112 on the back straight.

The Charger handled the best, but is big fat n heavy.

The AAR was a hoot because it had HP and a 4 speed and handled great for a car with no frame ties. I ran hundreds of laps with that beast. 130 on the back straight. The corner workers always commented about it's exhaust note from the 416/340.

The truck, well I am not impressed at all. 125 on the back straight trying really hard not to crash or miss a shift. Had I been tied the seat well maybe I would have had more fun. [5 pt belts]

The chrysler was a backup car and did well for a 4 door downsized boat.

Some Junk

I try to get in a couple of autocrosses every year. The last track day was this fall on the infield roadcourse at Gateway. It was a medium speed charity event and I happened to be driving my DD Mustang that day.
