I'm rebuilding my 273 +.030, Flat top pistons, 302 heads, Eddy performer intake, 600 cfm, 727 low stall, 3.23, exh maniflds & flow masters, 3000 lbs. 8.5 compression.
Looking for a cam, for a DD. would like to improve lowend TQ, Mileage.
Was looking at summits K6900 204/214 @.050 .421/.444 LSA 112. I rarely drive over 4500 rpm, ( getting old I guess ) would this cam be OVER kill for a small cylinder 273 ?
What would you look for to get lowend & mileage ??

I got a 273 4 speed 3.23 TTI's B body in the projects forum. What size valves? I would like to see more CR. Mine has a mild Comp Cam. I think it runs great for what it is, lousy mileage though, but thats the carb tune I believe. I think your cam is a little tame. I'll try and find my Cam card FWIW.

I understand and agree, I looked last night and couldn't locate my cam card from previous owner, I'll keep looking. But bumping the CR is free HP/efficiency and it helps in taking the edge off a slightly hotter cam, but being reasonable on cr keeps 87 gas a solution. If mileage is the major concern, just adding ANY tube headers is best single improvement bang for buck for mileage increase, IMO.

Yeah headers would help. But I don't want to deal with leaks, and the heat under to hood . I've got an A100 with the engine between the seats. From what I've read I need a short duration/ high lift cam. But what di I know ?

Generally speaking, for what you're doing a shorter-duration cam would be best. 8.5 CR is maybe a bit low, but the 204/214 won't be a problem, and might allow lower (cheaper) octane. Me, I'd like to see lift with that combo in the .450-.470 range to pick up the power without any ill side-effects. Some 1.6 rockers would be nice to find. But I'd have no problem sticking that cam in there with your combo.

I'd think the larger summit cam might work better...

Sounds just like this cam

These are hydraulic cams. If you have a pre '67 engine, you will probably have solids. The Elgin cams are great cams at a reasonable cost. A well kept secret.
