Well have had the car going for about 3 years now and I guess the rubber on the windsheild has dried out and shrank some. What do you guys use to seal them without taking the trim off? I hate to pull the trim because I'm afraid I'll mess the paint up. I got to get this fixed it started leaking bad. Thanks for any help on this. It is on my 70 RR Thanks Ronnie

Do yourself a favor and take it to a good auto glass shop so they can confirm where the leak is coming from.. Money well spent..
THEN let them seal it if they can.... trust me ...

The leak is just as likely coming from a pin hole in the metal. Dirt collects in the trough beneath the seal and moisture rusts it through.

I just completey restored the car about 3 yrs. ago. I had a glass guy to put the wind sheild in and I don't think he got enough sealer on it. It didn't have any rust around the frame and it didn;t leak untill now is why I think the rubber dryed out on it some. If I'm going to seal it what do I need to use ? Would I use the 3M window weild on it? I have got all winter to get it done but I do still drive it some in the winter so I need to get it fixed as soon as possible so I don't have to worry about it if I get caught out in the rain. If I could get the trim off with out chipping the paint I would'nt worry about it. So any info. will help. Thanks Ronnie

Between the glass and gasket?? OR the body and gasket??

glass/gasket, get a "hook" tool and gently pry the gasket away from the glass so you can get the end of the caulking tube ( try to cut the end to leave a small point) INTO the gasket, not just around the outside. Then clean off any excess sealant with a putty knife or razor blade after you seal it. Be careful not to scratch glass... Then use a rag or paper towel with some kerosene ( damp only not wet) to wipe off the rest of sealant on the glass and gasket.. Contact a local glass shop for a tube of sealant.

DO NOT..
let a sloppy wet rag of Kerosene drip down into the gasket, this will possibly destroy any seal made with the sealer.
push on the gasket too much and push out the sealant you have just applied UNDER the gasket lip, ( between the glass and gasket ).

Hope this helps

You can see it coming in at the bottom of the glass on the inside of dash. I watched the guy and he put a lot of sealer on the rubber on the frame side when he put it in and not much on the inside on the glass. I think the gasket has just dried out some and needs some sealer on the glass just got to figure out what kind to get. Thanks Ronnie

The gasket has not dried out, maybe the sealer has.. Again I recommend going to a GOOD auto glass shop for your sealer.. find an old school guy if you can....

To seal the gasket to the frame, seal up both sides and the top, leaving the bottom unsealed.
Glass to gasket, seal both sides and the bottom... Occasionally this does not work, but water goes downhill pulled by gravity.. If you think in this way, leaks are more easily figured out sometimes...

There are two types of sealant. The first is urethane, it is used in modern cars and cures to hard rubber like form. The second is butyl, it doesn't harden and is what the factory would have used between the body and the gasket only. I assume your guy used urethane between the glass and gasket.
If it is leaking by the glass you can try the fix in the above post. Just don't use a metal object unless you really want to break your windshield. Use a small plastic putty knife or something similar. Have a friend help. I don't know if the gasket will liftenough to get the sealant under. The correct way is to remove the crome, unzip the gasket, clean under there and reaply sealant.

I recently went through this with our field find 66 Coronet. I removed the glove box liner and gauge cluster and looked from underneath the dash for light while my helper used an LED flashlight to illuminate the perimeter of the glass. I marked the spots where I could see light and then filled them with 3M black weatherstrip adhesive from the inside being very cautious not to get any on the carpet. The car does not leak a drop even when it is close to freezing an pouring rain. I know it's not 100% guaranteed to fix the leak but it worked for me in this case.
