I put my side marker light housings in a few weeks ago and used the correct reproduction cone nuts. The studs that are cast into the bezel appeared fine before installation and I was using a nut driver and didn't crank on them at all but they never seemed to tighten. I am gonna pull them apart in the next few days to see if it stripped them as I fear. As you can appreciate they are already painted so I would really prefer not to replace them. Does anyone know a cure for this? I am considering something to build up the stud and triying again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

The studs are not cast into the bezel they are threaded into it and are replaceable. Just grab the stud with a vise grip and unscrew it. Replace the acorn nut too if necessary but the painted frame is certainly salvageable. I saw the stud sold separately but don't remember who it was that carried them.

On a 70 2 of the studs are replaceable and they are fine, but 2 are part of the casting like an emblem. You can see them in the auction below.

I thought about JB weld just not sure how it will hold up as the nut cuts into it.

carefully dress down the stripped stud and epoxy a short length of brass tubing. You can even go oversized if you drill out the mounting holes.

Replace the marker housing... a car is only as good as the parts its built with.
