Need help understanding date codes of "12JB" from a pair of manifolds said to be taken off a Hemi `Cuda that had less than 10 miles on the odometer when the car was converted to a race car in Mustang, Oklahoma. I thought the format was month, day, year "mddy", like B159 would be November 15, 1969... but that doesn't work in this case.

Thanks for any guidance...

I thought the format was month, day, year "mddy", like B159 would be November 15, 1969... but that doesn't work in this case.

Why doesn't this work in this case?

Month - 1 = January
Day - 2J = ????, wouldn't January 2nd be "02" ???
Year - B = ????, expecting "9" or "0"

Scott, similar to the format I sent you pics of in the past
3DB and 6JB

The top right manifold looks like it is 11 17 5; wow, that is early.

The manifold is part of two sets of Hemi exhaust manifolds that I bought from the family of Floyd "Pappy" Cline who owned the red 4 door Hemi Coronet in Wichita, Kansas. The Coronet was parked in the driveway without the engine or transmission, and I made several attempts to buy it... but we couldn't agree on a price. The two pair of Hemi exhaust manifolds were priced to sell though... $150 bought both pair! I believe that one of the sets that I bought from the Cline family in the mid 1980s was the original set from the red 4 Dr Hemi Coronet.

Interesting note. It is my findings that 70 and 71 hemi RH manifolds have these casting dimples... 66-69 do not. This is how you can tell the vintage of the RH manifold without seeing the casting date. The part number changed for 71 but the casting number remained the same.

Jason,
There is a better easier way to tell early vintage from later vintage. If you look at the pic you posted of your later manifold you will see it has the revised casting where the manifold ports meet the head (they are more smoothed) This was started in 1969. Allen's pic of his RH manifold has the "step" at the ports where the manifold meets the head. (pic right above yours)

As a side note: all the repro manifolds have the stepped ports since they were modeled after early manifolds. Which is really funny when they cast the 34xxxxx Ebody style part # into it

Allen, Can you post close up pics of the ports?

That's another detail that I have noticed as well but I don't think you can see that from the top looking down into the engine compartment... There are a couple of "restored" 70-1 hemi cars that don't have the correct manifolds.

Which RH manifold do you want close-up pics of? Here are a few of the "12JB" manifolds... anyone willing to help on the date code?
