I see Mancini makes a aluminum h2o pump housing for a big block. Are the Mopar ones any better or just more$? Any problems with either of them?

I've got a 440 source aluminum housing and pump , about 5 years old now with no problem. A lot cheaper than the one with the little penta star on them.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I just recently bought the Mancini housing because I read a thread where guys were saying it has better/larger cooling passages.

We have used many Mopar housing and the after market ones with no issues. The after market ones usually cost 1/2 what the Mopar ones with the part numbers on.The newer ones seem to be cast smoother inside and out.

Thumper the only thing I can think of is mine had plugs.I had to remove them for the heater hoses. They were really in there.A little heat and they came out.I also had to drill and tap for my mechanical gauge sensor.Rocky

I bought this one last fall.

Works great, no issues. Temp definatelystays at the stat more consistently, and drops quicker than it did with the stock unit. I don't know what spending more could have done for me (??).

i would be careful with that pump! i had one that didn't last long bearings went out and let the shaft wobble and ruined my brand new radiator. Also next time you have the housing off run your finger in the bottom right side water port. if you can't fit your finger in it with room to spare like a stock one it is restricting flow! been down that road as well! 440 source crap is what i had!!

440Source had a pile of those housings that had the small water flow passages.. They may work fine if one lives in cold Alaska but in SoCal heat they will overheat..

Don't know where they dumped these..
Stay kleer of any bargain ones..

Just my $0.05...

This one is not a source set, it came from ProComp. I'm aware of the passage issue people have posted about. This one is pretty open, I could put my finger easily up and around the bend. I'll watch the pump bearings, but as I said: so far so good.

i bought a 440 source housing for my street 470 then after some research i read they have smaller passages causing major overheating probs on street cars. i sold it at the next swap i was at for what i paid for it and walked over and bought the mancini pump and housing for the same price. the 440 source housing you can barely put your pinky finger into.

Guy at Mancini told me their pump housing is basically the MP housing without the Mopar Logo. I myself bought the Mancini housing about 5 years ago and its still working fine on my 63. Ron
