68 440 fuel pump? I have a carter M4845 the inlet is 3/8 outlet is 5/16th. The question is did the factory use an adapter for the line out to the separator?? I have not found a pump with an outlet that will allow the outlet line to connect directly to the pump?? Thanks larry J

Thanks for the picture. My ? is on your outlet at the fuel pump do you have an adapter between fuel pump outlet and the line to the separator?? So pump adapter line. Or does your line connect directly to your pump? Thanks Larry J

adapter ? - there is a hard steel line that bolts to the pump (as shown in the picture) and then a rubber fuel line from the steel line to the separator (again shown in the picture).

So my metal line out from the pump to the separator should screw right on to the pump without any adapters. The airtex 901 and the carter M4845 both will need an adapter to allow the metal line to connect to the pump. Is the another pump that will allow me to screw the line directly to the pump? Thanks Larry J

On some pumps there is a square fitting on the bottom, a pipe thread reducer with a flare is into that, then the 5/16 hard line.

The 2nd picture I posted is a correct pump with the correct outlet already part of the pump.

I think the issue I am having is the repop line is 3/8s. and not 5/16ths can I assume the original line outlet is 5/16ths. Thanks Larry J

this is the pump you want-hes moparts member. the napa pump has a male receiver, needing the adapter. and yes the line would have been 5/16.

Did the factory use the adapter?? Or did the line connect directly to the fuel pump without and adapter?? Either I have the wrong line or the wrong pump or the factory used the adapter and all of my parts are correct?? I have a Carter M4845. And reproduction lines which the line that connects directly to the fuel pump outlet is 3/8 is it suppose to be 5/16ths?? Thanks Larry J

By looking at the first picture, the inlet uses KV- hose which is 3/8". The hose connected to the outlet line is just KV. That is 5/16". It looks to me like the outlet line is 5/16". I think you have the wrong line.

Larry - you have either the wrong pump or the wrong fuel line. Either way, there is NO adapter from the factory.

Sounds like in your case an adapter will be an easy and quick fix if you don't care about factory correctness...
