I have a 440 charger that someone asked me to set the valves on it has a hyd cam and adjustable 1.5 alloy rockers. I warmed up the engine with the valve covers off seemed to be noisy and no oil up top as it warmed there was oil so I put the covers back on and warmed it up good. Pulled the covers and went about adjusting the valves as I would for a solid lifter cam. Went with o lash and added a 1/2 turn on the adjuster .( Engine not running using the old mopar performance solid lifter chart turning the motor over 180 etc.)

All seemed to be going well until I got about 1/2 way through the sequence and an intake lifter collapsed. I kept going and the next few collapsed too..DOH!

This doesn't seem right to me any ideas. I'm going to go at it again today and pick up where I left off after warming it up again and hoping for the best!

Bumping or hand turning the motor over slowly has resulted in bleeding down those lifters I like to use the other method(when the exhaust starts to open set the intake adjustment then bump the motor over until the intake valve opens all the way and starts to close and then set the exhaust rocker clearances or preload ) on all cams when it comes to adjusting the valve lash or lifter preload.I use my fingers on hydraulic lifter motors to try spinning the pushrods while backing the adjusters off until the pushrods spin freely, I then slowly tighten the adjuster until the pushrod start to get tension on it, I wiggle it up and down also while setting them, once I have zero preload on the pushrod I add 1/ 4 to 1/2 turn additional preload on the adjuster I do warm the motor up also, I'll set one side and then put the rocker cover back on and restart the motor and warm it up good before doing the other side Your choice on methods and procedures
