I am trying to figure out which bolts go to my steering gear box. I had everything nicely packed and marked except for those. Are they the standard hex or 12pt? My car is a 70 'Cuda 440-6. Also what size and length, thanks in advance for the help!!

I've seen both head types on both manual and power steering boxes, always with big lock washers, about 1 1/2 inches long.

Manual steering in this case if it makes a difference. I don't have any 8pt bolts, but have seen them on past cars as well so that's why I asked..............

IIRC they're 10 pt head bolts, that's all I've seen on manual or PS on B/E's....there's a set on Ebay for $18 right now?

Actually they are 12 pt so that a typical 12 pt socket will fit the bolt head

Here is my 71 Road Runner bolts. Its power steering. Maybe it has to do whit which plant the car was built in.

Going from my semi-good memory - I think that's what I have (the hex bolts) on my T/A's and AAR's as well....gotta look.

Never seen a 8 pt. or 10 pt. bolt on a car. As a matter of fact, I've never seen a 10 pt. bolt anywhere.

I am not home to measure. I think they are around 3.5 - 4.0 inches long. The hex head is 0.75 - 1.0 inch thick.
Uses a 3/4 inch socket.

I have read many threads on this website about the difference in E body and B body k-members, and one concern seemed to center around the differences in the angle the steering columns entered the steering box from the different body styles. I wonder if the shims are there to correct the difference? I thought the e body platform may require a lower angle on the column whick they made up for by shimming the top of the box toward the firewall... .....entirely speculation on my part.
