My 1971 R/T Challenger originally came with a 22" radiator (383 4 speed, non air).
Unfortunately my car's original radiator is long gone.
I understand finding an original 1971 B/E body big block, 22", manual tranny radiator is difficult and expensive.

I'm looking at aftermarket repops but I'm confused as to the radiator's correct outlet locations.
From the repop radiator websites they're showing the upper and lower radiator outlets are both on the left(driver's) side for my big block 22" application. (Kinda looks like a small block application).
Shouldn't the upper radiator outlet be on the right(passenger) side?

Anyone know of a company that sells a fairly original looking(not universal) and affordable 22" radiator (aluminum is OK) with the correct mounting brackets installed?

Yes they both are on the drivers side of the car. When you had the 26" one it was on the passenger side. I have a restored/recored 2998954 radiator if your interested. It has a 3-row core in it. I guess it also depends on if your restoring your car or if its just going to be a nice driver. If you go with a aftermarket one remember, cheap doesn't get you quality. And when it gives you problems, good luck getting your cash back.

I'm not sure what direction I plan to go.
I'm installing a 440 sixpack engine in the car.
I currently have an older style round top 22" radiator that cooled a 440 engine OK in the past.
I also have a nice 26" radiator that I could install using Be Cool's 22" to 26" mounting adaptors and not have to drill extra holes in my radiator support.

It would be nice to have a correct looking 22" radiator but I'm not spending big bucks on the rare 1971 big block, manual transmission only piece since the car is not going to be an all original restoration. Possibly a 22" from another B or E body.

I cleaned out my PM box also.

tank number. What does the book say. Like I said, this rad was in the car when I bought it in '78. I have had it changed to a 3-core a number of years ago.

Get the core from Fastbird and send it to GlenRay for a re-core...It will look and work better than new when you get it back. Dont worry about the numbers, most 22in are the same, 4spd cars had the trans cooler lines pluged in the lower tanks. Give Bob at Glen Ray a call for info on this. Orig fan shrouds for 22 in were at one time hard to find but today they are everyware.

The trans. cooler lines on 22" E body rad. bottom tanks were NOT plugged. The two holes for them do no exist on standard trans. 22" rads. That is part of the reason why 22" standard trans. rads have different part numbers than automatic ones. This also applies to 19" rads too. On 26" E Body rads, the cooler lines were plugged, the bottom tanks on 26" E Body rads are the same for both automatic and four speed cars.

Yeah,I was thinkin of the 26in but I still would find one from an auto car/truck and just plug the tranny cooler lines and have a good core put in to look way more correct that a aftermkt rad.

There is no BB 4 speed radiator. The 4 speed portion of it is just the plugs in the tranny cooler.

The 22" radiator is determined by whether you had AC or what gears you had.

If you have no AC and 3.23 gears you got a 22" radiator. My 70 Superbee Coupe V coded 440 car has a 22" radiator and 3.23 gears.

oops... i'm bad. It is suppose to be a 3443962. I guess I should read before I type. I don't have that part #. And yes she is a spendy one if you find it. If your not worried about the part # on the top tank, I have about 20 tank sets to make something with.

I went through a bunch of parts catalogues (car & truck) & couldn't find that number, but I am missing some from the mid-70s.

Nope. I bought the car from the original owner in '78. This has been in the car for the entire time I have owned it. But, the numbers do not run with the rads listed. However, it's definitely a Chrysler rad with a penastar, etc. It also definitely for use with a stick, as it does not have any outlets for cooler lines.
