Ok, I am ready to send my 69 B body woodgrain steering wheel out for restoration, but I have a few things I would like to find out before it leaves.
- Who can properly restore the center spokes on these wheels? The matte chrome finish is what I want, not sliver paint.
-Who recreates the woodgrain most accurately?
- What does a restoration typically cost for a woodgrain wheel starting out in good driver quality condition? i.e, one hairline crack on the backside, some light pitting on the spokes and no loose metal band on the grip.

Who do you guys suggest for this and is there a board member who can fit the bill for this kind of work?

Doug Lepak, in Edmonton Alberta Canada. His work is awesome, he did the wheel on my 70 Sport Satellite. Think his website is : www.thesteeringwheelguy.com ?

Google him . . . .

Cheers

Mark

its hard to beat Mike Tarkington's expertise. He's done 4 wheels for
me. One 70 rimblow Ebody wheel, 2 69 b body rallye wheels & one
68 Formula S rallye wheel. All were accurate & awesome, imo.
He charged $650 for a complete restored wheel & $300 I think it was
to restore my formula s & 69 Charger wheels. Here's the link
to his site. http://steeringwheelsbymike.com

Actually I did my own wheel. I am completely satisfied with the results and all it cost me was time and a little bit for the materials. I usually photo document my efforts, but I think I was a little skeptical about this project and didn't take any 'in progress' pictures.

One note, I did start with a wheel that had presentable spokes. I don't know of a way to fix pitted spokes other than to send it out.

I redid one, not woodgrain, but black rim. Here's an old thread.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to do as much myself, partially because I'm cheap and for the satisfaction of doin things myself.
