Small block and big block PCV valves are different from each other in 1970 . . . and in several other years as well.

sorry to highjack the thread but am i wrong here...or is the guru wrong...http://my.autorevo.com/revo/Viewers/PopupViewer1.aspx?IID=4743767&PID=60621612
HRK5 on the tag and in the report...burnt orange leather interior?
my 440-6 cuda has PRT5 for tan leather...isn`t P the destination letter for leather?
my 71 has SRX9...S is leather for 71 cars.
either both of mine are wrong and the guru is correct...or i`ve got two factory issued tags that are wrong.
all the best
frank.

According to the 1970 parts book, all V8 engines use the same pcv valve. Part# listed is 3420224.

Sorry to say, but yes, you are wrong. All of the codes you mention are correct. It is the 2nd digit, not the 1st, in the trim code which designates the material.
R = leather.

1970 trim codes from hamtramck historical;

1971 trim codes from hamtramck historical;

My all original 70 U code has the same PCV (except not painted)... I think its the same on all 70 motors,,, Can't imagine why there would be a difference whether it's SB or BB.

It is HRK4 - see http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/colorAndTrim/1970/70_Challenger0004.jpg

Challenger only.

far as i know smooth plastic body is 71, now it was the replacement pcv valve in 71 for all the 70s when they came in for tune ups...i have not had an original 70 to know if they were used in 70

Would originally be painted with assembled motor.

Some of these I've cleaned paint off of, and some are probably replacements. Some are smooth style, but molded in black plastic.

maybe there was a changeover date from ribbed to smooth barrel? The 70 v/c's I posted I know are oe and the car is still owned by the owner of the vc's with it's original motor. Here's a pic of a 70 440 that Frank Badalson had on display at Carlisle a few years ago - ribbed pcv
