Small block and big block PCV valves are different from each other in 1970 . . . and in several other years as well.

Sorry to say, but yes, you are wrong. All of the codes you mention are correct. It is the 2nd digit, not the 1st, in the trim code which designates the material.
R = leather.
thanx for the knowledge. i still don`t see a HRK5 in the charts you provided. was it a challenger only burnt orange leather thing?
all the best
frank.

My all original 70 U code has the same PCV (except not painted)... I think its the same on all 70 motors,,, Can't imagine why there would be a difference whether it's SB or BB.

far as i know smooth plastic body is 71, now it was the replacement pcv valve in 71 for all the 70s when they came in for tune ups...i have not had an original 70 to know if they were used in 70

maybe there was a changeover date from ribbed to smooth barrel? The 70 v/c's I posted I know are oe and the car is still owned by the owner of the vc's with it's original motor. Here's a pic of a 70 440 that Frank Badalson had on display at Carlisle a few years ago - ribbed pcv

hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to shed some light on subject - over the years I've picked up 2 NOS barrel pcv's for my 71 cuda, late May build, that's what will go on the car - I'll find out the build date of the car that the vc's I posted came off of if necessary

Both shapes - Barrel and 3 Rib are 100% correct on a 1970. Except on a Hemi (which generally used the 3 rib and not painted). They were always painted on the engine. Any of the pics above that show no paint on the PCV or the grommet are a replacement. 2 different vendors - both show as correct in all engineering documents and I have original cars with both types - and have seen a myriad of others with both types.
