cmansell OP mopar C Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 464	My car is now apart for paint and tag has rust in the date area and last few of the vin. Would like new tag to be sprayed with new paint. Who besides you know who is recommended? Thanks

cmansell OP mopar C Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 464	I used that term because the car matches the title, build sheet, numbers on the body and the tag you would build by doing a visual inspection of the car would be the same as the tag now other than the tire size. No funny business and wouldn't want my info spread across the net.

There are people here who know how to tell a repop from an original (for the record I am not one of them, but I have some ideas about what they are looking for). Once a car is known to have a non-original tag (especially if you change anything like tire size) word will get out if the car is on the market and it will be suspect. I might be inclined to put a tag in that says something like, "Original tag rusty" or something like that.

cmansell OP mopar C Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 464	I tried a wire brush and it is so thin and crusty in a few spots I was making it worse. I'll keep the original and besides this is my 43rd mopar and I'm pushing 60 so this will be my last resto. I'll leave all the papers for my wifes next husband.

The only "Legit" parts on any car are the one's the factory installed Russ I tend to agree with this ... even though all the replacement parts may have produced as replacement parts for Chrysler (or who ever) and sold through the parts dept, they are not original. Replacing everything, even with with parts that came in a box with MOPAR or CDPD on it doesn't make it more "original". Makes the survivor cars even more important to the hobby(?) vs all the ones "restored" with replacement parts. 7891852-Iconmachinegunner.gif (38 downloads) It takes gasoline to interest me.

It has nothing to do with the car's authenticity. Whether we like it or not, the value of a collectible car is usually tied to both it's authenticity and how it was equipped from the factory. A replacement tag calls both of those areas into question. I have the original tag and a copy of the IBM card for our 64 Valiant 'vert, and the original tag and a copy of the broadcast sheet for my 73 wagon. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending upon your point of view), no one will ever care that I have such documentation for 2 undesirable cars. Earning every penny of that moderator paycheck. DBAP

I would just leave the original tag on it ... assuming you didn't destroy it with the wire brush. Like Scott said there is no legit tag... is the rest of the car so bad that a shiny new tag is going to make it look better ?

If there's anybody out there that can make a good copy of it I don't see anything wrong with that, especially if you don't change anything and keep the old tag with the car. It's probably the folks who add or change options and try to represent as original that make everyone suspicious of a new tag. Now where is that 73 hemicuda convertible that I 'almost' bought a coupla years ago???
