I didn't get a oil pump gasket in the engine gasket kit. I ruined the existing gasket when I took the pump off. I am not having any luck finding one. This is the gasket that is between the pump and rear main. Do I need that gasket? Motor is a mid 80's 360.

You don't really need the gasket, but if you can take a good look at the pump mounting surface to make sure it looks flat at least. Sometimes the cheapy remans are a little warped.

You could make your own out of a thin piece of non-corragated cardboard.

I'd just grab one at the parts store for a few dollars? Or if they don't have it ask for some gasket material and make your own with a rubber mallet.

Mancini Racing or Hughes Engines has those SB oil pump gaskets. They aren't usually stocked at most parts stores.

Lots of SB's had no gasket at all, any leakage there is all internal anyway.

So you ask the knucklehead behind the counter for an oil pump gasket?
He'll bring you out an O-ring.
Guaranteed.

...he makes a mental note, thankful that the o-ring is available, as our hero has a good pump that needs only the o-ring.

It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.
