I'm taking off work early. I see they moved the gate opening time from 6:00pm to 5:00pm. I need a burnt rubber and octane FIX! I'll just be spectating as my junk is still in a million pieces.

I've made good progress this winter though. The engine is sitting on the stand, (Thanks, Brian @ IMM) and the painter has the body in finish prime, color next week. Maybe late March, April for test n tune.

It would take me a week to get there!

I'm wondering if there will be a "Hall of Shame" award to the first guy to oil down the new track...

I'll have you know I hold that distinction for the last guy to oil down Speed world on the last day the track was open - on a 10.53 pass.

I think they made it 3-pairs into the night before one of them oiled the track - from the starting line to the turnoff. I don't know who it was, but I'm pretty sure it was a street car.

I hope everybody has a better time of it tomorrow. I can tell you that it really sucks having too many cars at the track - and NOT giving out timeslips unless you park your car somewhere and climb the stairs to get it from the tower. Not good!

It was good meeting you out there!

I sure hope they are able to give the racers timeslips today - or it will probably get pretty ugly. LOL

I guess that means the new scoreboards aren't working yet?

Crizila, I saw your car at the Mopars Unlimited car show at Metro Center, but never got to meet you. Beautiful ride! I had my FK5 Challenger R/T there. Hope to catch you at a race soon.

Duner, This article says a contractor cut some lines to the new timing system. I guess that's why we had to go to the tower for slips.

It was great to meet you as well. All in all, I had a good time. Ran my daily driver Ram 1500 R/T for giggles. I got a 14.88@92 mph, not too bad for a stock 5000 lb truck.
They definitely have some growing pains, but it's great to have the track back.

Yeah, no scoreboards either… so nobody could even just TELL you how fast you went. LOL

I'm sure it will get better. I'm just happy that a functioning racetrack will be back soon!

OK. A cut line running to the timing shack would be the answer then.

My hooptie got a new best last night with a 10.57 @ 128 mph. I saw people were spinning badly - so I traded MPH for ET and added 200# of ballast - which netted me a 1.46 60' anyway! That's the best 60' I've gotten at a friday night TnT at Firebird. It's gone a 1.43 at SIR. I was pretty happy with my decision to add that ballast when I let go of the button and the end of the track disappeared from view! LOL

Good job on that number for your Ram!

Went yesterday. First day blues with the electronics, but the track was okay, if green.
One guy put his car on the roof (he's okay) and there were a few cleanups.

Got one car working better, the other still lays down on top.

Checklist for the track to fix.
Timing booth didn't work.
timing slips with no names, cut in half at the tower
No radio
no scoreboard.
No pre-stage lights by late afternoon.
No tech cards when paying, had to go back to get them.
Staging Lanes not marked
Ladders hand made on paper (nobody brought a laptop?)
Fix that stupid, over-long name!

Improvements all tracks can make.

In tech, make each car start, and load up on the converter, then shut off. Many of the minor leaks can be caught before it gets to the track.

have a dry easel or chalkboard with the classes listed in order of run times, updated as the day goes on. If you are going to call a class and then make them sit for 2 hours, you are going to annoy the racers and (rightly) receive a less timely response. Also the staging lanes tend to get messy!

I really am tired of the juniors and all the time and space (car, golf cart w/pullback, starter, 2-3 people each) it takes to run that class. The kids are the most pro of them. Mama and the other 2 kids tend to be the worst.

A great sound system next to the tower but bad further out is useless when you can't hear it over the burnouts and runs up close and nothing further out.
Have another set of scoreboards on the tower, facing the area where most racers congregate (lanes) so they can keep track of others. Having the announcer say "and Bill made a GREAT run, 9>cue burnout drowning out the rest<".

For the TnT deals they also need to understand that the slick-tire guys have to be able to get to the slick lanes. They felt the need to block that - so you couldn't get there with the street cars not understanding lane designations or even that there were lanes painted on the blacktop.

The safety/cleanup crew also didn't understand how to get from the top of the track back to the starting line. Trying to get there by going into the back of the staging lanes and waiting for some cars to clear out was a disaster waiting to happen. I'm sure that was just because this was their first race - and quite possibly nobody told them how or where to get back.

"Bad day in black rock" yesterday for me. First trip down the track and the alternator decided not to work above 5,000 rpm. My ignition don't work on 12 volts, so lots of candles went out. Made one more pass to verify the problem - shifting way early at 6200 rpm. Car farted down the track to a 10.71 @ 126.31. My spare alternator sat in the attic at home, so my day was over. I thought the track prep was excellent on Saturday - everything else was a little f--ked up - second pass down the track not until 2.30pm ???? ET slips in a bucket at the tower????? When you pay good $ to race, that crap shouldn't be going on. Understand the pro stock cars, will be doing some T&Ting at Wildhorse on Feb 3,4,5. Anyone know if the track will be open to spectators on those days?

Jim Wade was the guy that put his car on the roof. He is a little hurting(mostly his legs) but is doing okay.

Too bad about wade. Got to know him and his wife from Speedworld days. Good people.
